Sons duster needs wheels and tires..i would like to run 15x7 x 4 1/4 bs and 225 70 15 on the front ..15x8 x 4 1/4 bs and 255 60 15 on the rear..will this combination work ..any and all help appreciated,,tx..j

The fronts are going to be awfully tall. The backspace is right, but I'd say you'd want 225/60/15's to avoid trimming the fender corner. That's what I have on my '74 Duster, 225/60/15's on 15x7" cop rims, same backspace.

You could probably use a little more backspace out back, 4.5" for an 8" rim is usually the ticket. But on a Duster you should have the room in the wheel wells anyway. I run the same wheels out back on mine, 225/60/15's on 15x7, 4.25" backspace. More than enough room. If you wanted to run 275's I'd say you'd want the extra .25" backspace, but with a 255 you should be good.

How is this combo...front..225 60 15 4 1/4 bs...rear 255 60 15 4.5 bs..thanks for the help..j

I have on my 73 Duster 225-70-15 on the front and 275-60-15 on the back
On Factory 15x7 aluminium wheels with a 4 1/4 backspace and 1/4 inch spacer so tire dont rub the front spring clamp. May step up to a 3/4 inch spacer to bring closer to 1/4 panel

Thanks for the help..went out and put bfg with 225 60 15 and 4 1/4 bs on and the clearance on the front corner was 1/8 of an inch..way not enough,so we went down 215 60 15 and ended up with about a half inch of clearance..at the rear,we put 255 60 15 0n 4.1/2 backspace and have lots of room..made a big diff in looks and stance...looks nice...tx again j

Wow! I'm surprised the 225/60/15's didn't have enough clearance. That's the exact same tire and backspace that I have on the front of my '74, with no issues at all.

Thats really funny that 3 or 4 differant vehicles can run 3 or 4 differant sizes and do or donot work...it must have something to do with where the k frame sets in your front end and the strut rods ..thats all i can figure.one other thing,is on my wifes vehicle we put on 265 70 of one brand and had 2 tires 265 70 of another brand and one brand was almost an inch narrower than the other..and on the duster, the driver side is a little tighter than the pass side,.car looks good tho.My sons happy with it...tx..j

So your rear tires you went with 255/60 on a 15x8 with 4.5 bs? Is that with a stock rear end?

Do the front and rear tires appear to stick out the same if you look down the side of the car?

Honestly, have you driven the car with that 225-70-15? That's like 27.5" tall.

The track width is wider on the front on 73 and up with factory disks with the stock rear.

Nice Duster Jim!

Here's my combo, since it seems like tire/backspace is always a hot topic....

Here is what I'm running on my 72-

Front
225/70R14 Cooper Cobras
Crager SS 14x7 4 1/8" backspace
Stock sbp Kelsey Hayes disc brakes

Rear
Stock 8 3/4 A body rear
Cooper Cobra 275/60R15
Crager SS 15x8 4 1/4" backspace
Espo +1" leaf springs
3/8" clearance to leaf springs in stock location.

Get a slight rub in the rear occasionally, with multiple passengers, heavy duty bumps, and steep driveway entrances, but don't see any witness marks on tires, wheel wells or springs, so don't know where they rub. Could be hitting the tub,or could just be bumping the pinion snubber. If I had it to do over I would go with +2" springs.

Fronts are 14x7 Crager SS 4.125 backspace with Cooper Cobra 225/70R14

P.S. Jim - I need to get those pulleys as soon as you are ready.

So my huge dilemma is, is it at all possible to make the track width equal on a factory rear end with just changing rims and tires? Or is this gonna cost me a new rear end also

Gheez. id forgotten that thread was still in exsistance...I get a little rubbing on occasion but havnt checked for skid marks...boy...that's a good looking dus..car..i can out those in the mail mon am...j
