77k abody at mecum.. what do you guys think?

LMAOOOOO

okay, pal.

i'm sure you've got your finger on the pulse here because of how many you've bought, sold, built or gone and looked at.
I think that I brought up some good points that will directly affect the valve of the car. Buying / selling isn't the only means of calculating the value of a vehicle. I realize that it's costly to restore a car or truck and time consuming, but it would be nice for a change to be given a little credit for knowing something to look for when going to buy a car or possibly work on it.

What does everybody think the car is worth?
It doesn't look any better than the one I sold in 2011, after I had driven it hard for about 8-10 years. Mine was a 1970 Dart Custom, 318/904/7.25 car originally, swapped out for a mild 360/727/8.75 with high back cloth buckets sourced from a 75 Dart SE, correct console and floor shifter, disc brakes, subframe connectors, Eaton Tru Trac differential, TTi headers and full 3 inch exhaust, all bodywork and paint done, new carpet, etc. I sold it for $14k CAD, and last year it was for sale with a supposedly fresh 408, same interior and probably still the same paint from 2003 for around $30k CAD. If I had the money, I might have offered $25k for it. This one from Mecum being an original 340 car, might be worth $35k in my books, only because it was a 340 originally. I don't like the color, and I hate the bench seat interior.
But that's just the opinion of a grouchy old bastard who can't afford such things any longer.

We are seeing the same thing all across the market. Prior to Covid, that was probably a $25-30k car. The B & E bodies have gone so crazy, the bottom of the market has gotten jerked up hard. Heck, folks are asking $20-30k for four doors & station wagons now. Go figure.

For comparison, a 23 Scat pack wide body challenger is about $50k. Can still get a manual. For the same price as the dart, you could get a nice used Hellcat. They are not an old vintage car, but there is not much of a comparison in my opinion.

I still like old cars, but at those prices, I think it is a better deal to go modern.

$35K-$40K depending if numbers motor.

IF you wanted to address the major issues: $2-3K parts for detailing (340 manifolds, dash work, shifter, master cly…) then labor to install $1-2K. And if you want the trunk painted… like $3-4K plus!

It will still not look like if was restored right from the start.

Sorry you are wrong.
Selling and buying 100 percent determines what a cars value is.
Someone sells a car for let's say 50K. It was worth 50K to buyer. Does not matter if seller had 25K in it or 100K.

The Mecum folks often say that typical sellers get about 50 cents on the dollar on what they put into it. Seems like somebody got all of their money back on that one.

easily mid to high 30's, maybe tickles low to mid 40's

there's stuff going on, to be sure. but the big important stuff, the expensive stuff is there.

throw in the auction tax and bump for the high impact color and there we are.
I was thinking that these cars don't sell for more than $50k down south and a lot less for this one.

That is just classic.

right now the 70~72 cars (duster/dart) are on a HARD upswing. high impact colors are having their moment as well so when the two combine, we're seeing unprecedented numbers.

as people get priced out of chargers and e-bodies, those cars are becoming more desirable because of their perceived affordability. 77K for a "snazzy" 340/4spd dart starts to look a lot more attractive than 100K for a similar cuda/challenger.

It worth whatever someone is willing to pay. And someone with more money than brains paid 77k for it. So that’s what it was worth.
I hate that saying :) While its true it doesn't tell you anything. One drunk ijit at an auction doesn't set market value but I hope I am wrong.

I'm not saying this as a fact, but I wouldn't be surprised if I could find things wrong with it cosmetically that would take away from it's so called 77k value. I doubt very seriously if the buyer could turn around and sell it for a profit. Folks that attend those auctions have disposable income.

You guys are funny. Pointing out all the flaws saying it’s not worth this and or that… you think the person spending 80k on that car cares? Not a chance. The same person probably bought their kid a 100k car for their 16th birthday.

Is that fender tag in the right spot? My two cars have it back closer to the washer bottle

Where's that AgreeX1000 button I keep asking for?
