77k abody at mecum.. what do you guys think?

I hate that saying :) While its true it doesn't tell you anything. One drunk ijit at an auction doesn't set market value but I hope I am wrong.
One drunk ijit doesn’t but at an auction there is at least two drunk ijits, every damn time.

You guys are funny. Pointing out all the flaws saying it’s not worth this and or that… you think the person spending 80k on that car cares? Not a chance. The same person probably bought their kid a 100k car for their 16th birthday.
Maybe, you might be right. There are those types of buyers out there where its chump change they don't care.

On the other hand there are no shortage of ppl out there that finance the whole thing. Home equity loans, roll it into a mortgage refinance, 10 year loans ect. Those types of buyers are very common.

Can't judge a book by its cover. Don't assume just because they dropped some dumb amount of money on a grossly over priced car.....

A fool and their money will soon be parted.....

I find this whole thread funny as hell. To think that for years, the lowly A body wasnt worth squat, and now that prices are rising, people complain! Be happy that the value of your ride is increasing finally. Who here would ***** about the value of their house increasing because your neighbor just sold theirs for more than you thought it was worth? I dont frequent the other For _ Bodies Only sites, but do people there complain that their cars are worth too much money?
I think there is a difference between "would I pay that much for vehicle X" and "what vehicle X's market value is because someone paid that much for it". Would I pay seven or eight figures for a mint one of one hemi Cuda convertible? No. Is it worth it? Yes, because someone paid that much for it. Market value folks.
I personally think its crazy for ANY old vehicle to go for exorbitant amounts of money, but my opinion doesnt amount to a hill of beans or influence value one little bit. And noones opinions in this thread are wrong, its just their opinion, but it doesnt mean the market value of the vehicle is wrong.
I hope that values do continue to increase, cause when it comes time to sell my car down the road, Id like to get as much for it as possible, as Im sure everyone else who owns one does. Cause Im pretty darn sure that noone here is going to sell their ride for less than market value, just because they think its crazy to pay X amount of dollars for their type of car.
Just my 2c worth, and its not even worth 2c :)

Just because it sold for that at a auction doesn't mean that it would've sold for that in the private sector.

Painted brake line because too lazy to take off before painting engine compartment. Rattle canned black trunk. Half assed work red flags right there.

That is only the beginning.. the reflection down the size look like a wavy fry, lots of thing under the hood look cheap... really make it look that nice and cant buy a repo washer tank? Use an old yellowed one....

Someone has more money than brains. Nothing more
maybe it was their dream car and that's the reason they dropped the coin. you don't know the why or howcomes. also, when was the last time you saw a 70 dart 340/4spd car in a high impact color for sale? i'll wait...

I'd like to see him sell it and make a profit. Probably would wind up selling it for less than he paid for it.
not everybody buys to sell to make a profit. again, maybe that's their dream car.

or maybe they sell it next year for a loss because they're using it to launder money thru ill gotten gains. who's to say!

I'm not saying this as a fact, but I wouldn't be surprised if I could find things wrong with it cosmetically that would take away from it's so called 77k value. I doubt very seriously if the buyer could turn around and sell it for a profit. Folks that attend those auctions have disposable income.
you could find flaws with the mona lisa. we've long established this as fact. nothing is good enough for you, dan.

Where a vehicle sells is irrelevant, because thats purely speculation saying that, what counts is the fact that it sold and that it sold for X amount of dollars.

Yes it does matter where it sells. Auctions offer all kinds of things private sales do not. Same for classic car dealers. There are plenty of seller costs and risks.

Also, we don’t know if it even sold. They run cars over and over that are sold. Big customers (to Mecum) selling many cars have opportunities that 1 car seller don’t. There’s all kinds of “stuff” going on.

Oh, I thought it sold for that. Did it not sell or do we just not know?

You just can’t 100% trust auction results.

The market is set by average selling amount for similar car and quality.

One outlier does not set the market or mean similar 340 swingers will sell for that. It’s a bell curve.

Also people use classic cars for financial manipulation. Tax purposes, Money laundering, etc. Auction amount puts a paper value on an object.

Also market manipulation… Mecum sells their own cars. They can sell them to themselves. They get paid a %. Market goes up.. their profits go up.

this bears highlighting and repeating.

[generally] the people that buy cars such as these are not like us. they aren't enthusiasts, or hobby driven. they may be "collectors" or in it for financial gain-- buying & selling, sometimes it's just a straight up rich guy flex, or they might be in it for other reasons.

it's funny to me when people say things like: oh i'd love to tell and show that person all the flaws on that car and what all is incorrect.

spoiler alert: they don't care. not one iota. they thought it was cool, wanted it and bought it. that's it. that's the whole story. they don't care about all of our nerd-***-nerd ****.

A pocket full of cash and 9 beers deep,

“Dude a friend of mine had a green nova just like that in high school!!”

I am glad to see some higher prices. I bought my first 68 barracuda when I was seventeen in 1989 for $900.00. I couldn’t afford a charger or a cuda. I always felt like I was a second class citizen with the other mopar people because I had an A body. People didn’t really give a crap about dusters, barracudas, darts or demons in the 80s. I have had two other barracudas since my first one at seventeen years old. Now I can afford that B body or E body, but I want my A body and wouldn’t have it any other way. These cars are due to get some love. They are cool and deserve to get some
crazy prices now and then.
