I am setting up my 1967 Dart to put a single turbo Gen 3 hemi 6.1 stroker that I built, into.

I have just about completed the roll cage which I was setting up for an 8.50 Cert. This morning I started thinking about my main hoop design which is bent following the contours of the interior. It peaks by the dome light and drops to the sides at approximately 4 degrees each side, before going down by the glass, and in slightly towards the floor.

Will a main hoop that is not flat across the top pass the 8.50 certification. I am kind of on hold right now. Definitely not wanting to get the grinder out and re do it all. Everything looks great and fits wonderful.

What do you guys think? I appreciate your input.

I attached some pictures. Anyone done anything similar or know if there is a requirement for a specific design? Will I need to make a new main hoop? I can’t find anything in the rule book saying this isn’t allowed.

Thank you.

John

I sure would not want to cut it out.
don't know anything about cage building or NHRA rules on it. but i do know straight line triangles are the strongest.
Instead of cutting it out. why not just add another bar like this.
Maybe it would be just as ease to cut it out and re weld.

Here's mine, can get a better picture if you want, but this will cert for 8.50 since Maddart friend who built it, builds cages. Can get a different angle if you need it.

Not normally done like that, but the bend in the center is not much concern. The height of the main hoop (distance from the hoop to the roof) is. The top of your head (or helmet) is supposed to below the top of the hoop and halo bars while in the seated position. I hope the assembly is lowered through holes in the floor to finish the welds.
