A 36 year-old New York man had his Jaguar XKE convertible stolen back in 1968. Today, nearly a half-century later at age 82, he's about to be reunited with the prized possession he thought he'd never see again.
Stolen 1967 Jaguar XKE convertible recovered
Customs authorities at the Los Angeles/Long Beach (LA/LB) seaport complex recently discovered and seized the white, two door 1967 Jaguar XKE convertible in a container on its way to the Netherlands. Upon investigation, they discovered that the vehicle was the same (originally, grey) vehicle stolen back in 1968.
They tracked down and called the owner, now living in Florida, who called it "a miracle" that he's finally getting his "first good car" back:
"This is just a miracle, a miracle. I was 36 years old then and now I'm 82. It was my first good car and favorite. It's a wonderful car. I used to get up at 4 or 5 in the morning on either Saturday or Sunday and drive it 90 to 100 (mph) on the highway in New York. It was good for the engine in a car like that. I bought it brand new. I had it less than a year."
He says he knows what he's going to do the car and what he's going to say if anyone asks him about its recovery:
"I'm going to restore it. And, if anyone asks, I'll tell them I'm very proud of my government."
