Hey everyone! Building a street 318 pretty mildly and I’m looking at 920 heads specifically because bench testing them vs 302’s at work after porting I get better port velocity in the 920s which is what I’m looking for since this isn’t a high rpm build I’ve always made more power with 920s on customer cars as well. If anyone has a set that isn’t pitted beyond repair I’m interested, as long as a minimal decking is needed I’d be very happy, if they have valves with them I could clean up that’s the best case as I don’t have it in the budget I planned to buy nice clean heads because I can do the machine work and cleaning at the shop. Basically building a commando 318 sort of if you could call it that, I’ve got a forged crank, I’ve been eyeballing KYB 167 flat tops that I’ll machine them to come to exactly 0 deck and with those heads my felpro gasket should be .040” thick which is exactly where I want it for the quench pad and about half of a static compression point is the goal, however I’m looking at a budget build and the kyb’s are more than this engine would ever need. Who has experience with the cast flat tops and pop ups they sell for around 150 a set/kit with pins and rings on summit?

Just as a side question if anyone knows much about those pistons, I know they’re heavier, I can use the lighter of the 2 cranks, I’ll be using a 4 speed out of an A body and an 8-3/4 with a sure grip chunk with I think 3.54’s in it maybe 3.42’s it’s close to that I’m not exactly sure until I check the tag again. Just looking to make a fun car, and the 318 is a must as it’s the last engine that was in a vehicle my best friends father owned before he died and it’s to go in an aspen r/t because it’s what he drove when he met her and she wants to be able to drive it, I promised to build it for her as that woman has helped me in life more than my own parents did and I wouldn’t be around without her kindness and she wants a 4 speed aspen r/t clone. While I search for a shell or cheap slant 6 car Plymouth volare or aspen I’ll make it look like an aspen RT. This is for sentimental value and is not supposed to win races, just look right and also be pretty darn fun!

I’m building this to be a pretty preppy and fun motor nothing insane it’s not a big block or a b body; or even actually an a body but the heads would’ve been in a bodies! And the support here is better than for the aspen….you guys have great taste I have a 61 dodge lancer personally and this RT will be owned by me and cared for and daily driven as a commuter the short distance to work and my friends mom just wants a few chances to drive it and I’ll admit the aspen rt, mustang ii king cobra, and the amc hornet amx with all the fiberglass body kit stuff on. Just a weird transitional time, the window louvres and all it’s just the last push for the classic look before the foxbody, k cars and the DSM challenger, and well no amc.

I will say I wouldn’t mind a dodge mirada magnum though.
Sorry for the adhd rant about everything I’m doing with this build; I appreciate if you made it this far and hope you have what I need! Thank you everyone

Welcome to FABO. I will change this thread from an ad to a Question thread but you can't do both in a wanted ad. Your ad should be just asking for parts and not discussing anything else. Please repost your parts request only in a proper ad in the Marketplace forums.

You can change it to a question, I apologize I tend to ramble from adhd it’s fine to change it I understand completely. Thanks for telling me and not just taking it down. Thank you again enjoy your morning

I think someone did a test on the difference between the 920 versus the 302 heads. I looked through the site and can't find it right now. Maybe someone remembers the test and can come up with it.

All good. I cleaned it up and changed the title and location. You can chat with the fellows about your build now.
