A 1974 Duster - My 2nd one, 41 years later!

-
I have been back and forth over gloss or flat. Flat is harder to spray because it can't be cut and buffed. So, I decided I am going to do.........Gloss Black.

Cool, that should really pop. Are you going to sand the green and clear over it to bury the brake, or leave the line for the decal look?

I think FABO should find and buy you a clapped out A body. That way when this Duster is done, I won't go through a massive withdraw when you stop posting. This build looks to be almost complete. You've done an amazing job throughout and personally, there isn't a single thing I would have changed.
Sooooo how about picking up another A body and get back at it?

In an effort to get this done, for now the black is going on the Cowl, the Hood, and the Scoop. I have wrestled with this also.... finally deciding: I am not going to do the tops of the fenders and around the windows. I want to do something slightly different than what has been done many times. I will be adding the larger 1974 gloss black stripe graphics to the sides and the tail panel, also the door mirrors are black. I think when you see........it is gonna look pretty darn cool. I am going to black out the windows with dark tint film also.

OCswinger...that is quite the complement, thank you. Funny thing is....this Duster is a resto-mod replication of My first car. My wife's first car was a 1973 Plymouth Scamp. Just maybe, maybe....I might see if I can find the right Scamp to build! Just maybe.

Not much to report today. Fixing the cowl dents that I missed. Glazing putty and a little epoxy paint.

I got the call from the paint cut/buff shop to come down and see my trunk lid that they had done for me. All I can say is... It was amazing! It looked like a green mirror. So.... they are doing the rest of my car as soon as I finish the black cowl and black hood.

^ LOL!!! I do kinda wish I was! I really can only spray paint down here on Saturdays and the buff shop needs 2 weeks ...but I did book my spot to bring the car in. Also have car hauler enclosed trailer ready to go. Soon, soon and glass can start to go back in!

Soon. I said it would take me 3 years, June 15th is 3 years. That is still my target. But lets face it...Are they ever really done? There is always something to do on them.

Higgs showed up after it was sprayed to give his approval, yes. Pics, first one is just base coat. The others were taken this morning when I unmasked it. All the green is scuffed/color sanded in 1500, 2000 next. Engine compartment needs a good cleaning.

Love black cowl and the different way of the black out options you picked. Black scoops with the mirrors and the cowl? Regardless what a great job you have done! Your Dad is going to love seeing it. Great way to relive our youth I had a 74 Duster I really gotta decide buy Tincups car lol or get a Challenger.....or do I throw a modern Hemi turn key into a good straight car. Mine was only a slant six 225 but I loved it. But at 49 life works on you. How you found the time congrats man great thread. Thanks for sharing.

So getting car ready to go to get buffed out. So I did the first cut with 1500 wet. Then I used dry guide coat over the whole panel. Shows you all the 1500 scratches. Wipe it down with a wet rag. Now you can see what needs to be wet sanded in 2000 grit. As you sand the black goes away leaving an awesome flat panel ready for the 3000 grit.
