I was watching TV last night, and someone said their favorite treat as a kid was a bottle of pop with a handful of peanuts in it. I used to do that all the time. As a kid, I used to go to the YMCA. They had ping-pong tables, pool tables, an indoor pool, and lots of other games to play. I could get a bottle of pop for a nickel and a small handful of peanuts for a penny out of a machine. Put those peanuts in the bottle of pop and with every sip let a few peanuts in. So good. How many of you have done that?

I still do it all the time. 20 oz Coke with a big bag of salted peanuts. Take a big sip to make room and then pour all the peanuts into the Coke. You should see some of the looks I've gotten from kids....especially snotty teenage girls who walk by when I'm mixing it up outside the store....lol.

The little short coke (8 oz?) from a rounded top table top sized vending machine was a nickel. Bag of Lance brand peanuts from snack machine for a dime. Those 2 machines were in a barber shop. When the 5 cents on the coke machine got a 10 cent sticker I was 1 of very few who knew the machine hadn't been changed internally. It would give me a coke for the nickel. Dang I'm old.

I never did the peanut deal, a coke, hershey bar and 2 bazooka bubble gums and I was good to go.
We used to collect bottles and return them for deposit, never really had to pay and always got change back.

Never, sounds terrible,..but I'll take Your word for it that it rocks....
Since I quit drinking pop/soda/coke about 30yrs ago, I won't be trying it, lol...

I remember seeing people do that back in the 80s. When I asked about it a few years ago, nobody that I asked had heard of the practice.
I like my sodas cold and sweet. I would not do this sort of thing.

I picked it up from my Dad and would occasionally share a Coke like this with my son. He didn't like it. I quit drinking anything except water, coffee, and tea with no add-ins except sea salt in my water. Honestly, I still drink a soda pop a couple times a year. I'll have to add the peanuts for old times sake.

Growin up in the south, of course I've done it. I was never crazy about it though.

I used to play 9 ball all night long and gamble with the old-timers.And that's all they did was put a pack of Lance, salty peanuts and a glass Coca-Cola and it foamed up and fizzed.Did they drank it..I liked it too

Never heard of the peanut thing but I'll try anything. The thing I remember is the chocolate coke at the local soda fountain.

The burger joint I worked at as a teen sold cherry chocolate cokes, pretty popular. One night a car full of guys pulled up at the drive thru just after we closed and shot the camera.

1960s S W Ga. town soda fountain at the Drug Store made cheery Coke, never knew a choc. Coke.
But Coke Float, Coke and ice cream, yum!

Never liked salted peanut in a Coke.
But, boiled peanuts are a S. Ga. staple!

I've never seen or even heard of this.
And I'll never try it.
It seems like it would be a PITA to tilt the bottle up and get the peanuts with the right amount of pop mixed in.
It would be too complicated for an old fart like me...
lol

I don’t remember peanuts and pop being a thing where I grew up.
But I used to always put a bag of peanut M&M’s in my slurpee when I was a kid - 1970’s

Soda fountain in the drugstore offered a cherry coke in a paper cup, 7 cents.i thought 2 cents for that little squirt of cherry syrup was robbery. LOL

The salt knocks down most of the carbonation.
Yall may not have heard of the canteen wagon in a mill being called "the dope wagon". Cup of coke was called a "dope" and was a nickel. Coffee was a nickel, iced tea was a dime. There was only one big tank hanging on that wagon so which drink was based on time of day.
When I worked the 2nd shift I would go on by the dope house where I could get a coffee.
I remember when that tall dude named Lewis asked me to come around back and help hang the tea. Afterwards he said, "grab tourself a candy bar or something. I choose Reeses cup with my coffee.
A few minutes passed then I noticed a small yellow envope on the floor in front of the desk with corner of a 20 peeking out. I picked it up and handed it to Lewis. I was commended for my honesty and designated the daily helper. I soon enlisted my big buddy Phil. He could hang 10 gallons head high by himself. I'm smart too.

Very common at Schrader's Chevron '73-'75  Wait a minute, I think we switched to cans in the Coke machines in '74
