I currently daily drive a 64 dart with /6 PB A904 transmission. My torque converter keeps eating the front seal and bushing. There's some grooves in the shank. So I replaced with spare converter i had from a 61 dart. Turns out the ring gear is different and starter will not mesh. I'm guessing I need to find a 9 tooth starter to make it work? Any ideas?

Often, I have replace hubs on the converters at
any of the torque converter rebuilder.

I has not been a hard or expensive deal for them.

It could also be an alignment issue on converter to
front pump. Usually a few grooves has not caused
on issue for me unless pretty significant damage.

If you could post a picture, it would be easier to assess.

Here's a picture of converter. I didn't think it looked that bad.

Are you running a '68 or later engine (or, more to the point, a '68-up crankshaft)? If so, and the appropriate spacer ring wasn't put between the larger '68-up crankshaft counterbore and the smaller '67-down torque converter nose, the result will be as you describe.1

Correct, see here.
