Adding part throttle kickdown 904

-
After around 65-66 they are all pretty much the same VB, but some got the PTK and some didn't.
The entire PTK kit is an add on valve assy, so when you pull the VB down it's pretty obvious if it has it or not.
Nothing about the PTK kit involves splitting the valve body or messing with check balls.

Is this what you wanted to know?

In the pic below the PTK valve section goes where those springs and valve are sticking out and it is laying on top of the VB in the upper left of the pic.
VB's without it have a flat plate there over those springs and valve.

old thread i know. i googled part throttle kickdown and this thread popped up. so all I'll need it do is pit that piece on my valve body to have part throttle kickdown?

part throttle kickdown i assume works like it sounds?

is there a vendor that sells the parts i need because the local yards don't have much old stuff anymore and it would be hard to find.

Yes, it does what it sounds like it does.
There used to be a seller on ebay, but as far as I know he either is gone now or stopped carrying the kit.

His name is Pat Blaise
Looks like he’s still around.
Torqueflight Patty.
This link goes to his ebay store.

It’s an easy install, but the valve body does have to come down.
You remove a small plate and replace it with the part and longer screws. (The kits came with them.)

how much less pedal do you need for it to kickdown. when doing my trans i forgot all about wanting to do this. i was more worried about the low gearset and forgot all about it.

A & A Transmission has the kits also. It's the best improvement anyone can make on a 70 and earlier Torqueflight that retains the automatic shift. It will make the car.much more enjoyable to drive!

I recently got the PTK kit from A&A. It was originally sold for the slant 6 valve bodies and works great on the pre 1971 valve bodies. Cannot put the part throttle kickdown piece from 1971 and newer valve bodies onto the older ones though. The A&A piece works great and I've used it myself. I installed the Fairbanks Transaction shift kit into all my automatics. When set up with this shift kit, I have my part throttle kickdown shift from 3rd to 2nd about 1/4 throttle at 25MPH. The PTK is a must have for street driving in my opinion.

This is hard to answer since it all depends on mph and load.
Let’s just say you will be very happy with the results.
I was, and I’m not easily impressed.

@TrailBeast i found three of the valve bodies i have laying around are PTK i believe.. i'll post a pic below...

so if/when i pull that 1/2" ish spacer off there are valves and springs behind it? i need to use those?

the other question my buddy who does my transmissions asked was if PTK would still work properly since my valve body has a shift kit and the trans line pressure is turned up. the governor isn't anything special..
