Hey guys. About were is the total mechanical advance built into a new mopar performance dissy at. (does 20 or so sound right). Replaced the old stock one on my valiant with a new mopar performance unit & setting her at 36 total takes the initial from about 10 to 16. Am I in the ballpark before I start getting the vacum advance set. Thanks

If I remember correctly it's around 24*. it should be adjustable though so you can tighten it up some if ya want. Malory sells the shims to set it.

Mine is currently set up with 18* in the plate. So, with 16* initial I get 34* total. I recently bumped the total to 36* which would put initial at 18*. If you car starts without kicking back, you're fine.

As you can see in the pic, the throw of the mechanical advance is adjustable (button head screws) with the newer "Mallory" style MP dizzys.

Thanks for the info. guys. Wow didn't know the newer ones had adjustable mechanical advance or were made by Mallory. If my cheap a$$ ever bought something completely new instead of on ebay, trading for, used, swapping, etc. I might get some instructions. Thanks again.

Found this info. on moparts. They are set at 28 mechanical advance from mallory which can be adjusted from zero to 28.. Good info. which is not in instructions.Since I got mine previously owned but never used thought I just got shorted some instructions. Here is the link. Time to adjust mine a little more & hope it helps someone else.

even if you have the stock style mechanical advance, you can shorten or lengthen the total advance using a welder and round file. I just yesterday changed my 15R plate (30 degrees mechanical advance) to a 10R plate (20 degrees mechanical advance) by adding some weld and then filing it to 0.400" total length of each slot. Its really easy if you have some fabrication tools.

This way, my car is setup for 14 degrees initial and 34 total.
