Hey all!
I need some help with my alternator belt placement.
I’ve got a 1968 Plymouth Valiant and the alternator I have on it is a two pulley. My question is, does the alternator belt need to go on the inner pulley that is closest to the alternator or does it go on the outer pulley?
With that, my next question is about the other end that the belt needs to loop onto. There are two pulleys that are located underneath the front part of the engine; one small and one large. Would it go on the smaller pulley or the larger one?
The reason for this confusion is because it is currently on the inner pulley of the alternator and the smaller wheel, but I was watching a video today of someone with a 70’s Dart and I noticed their belt was on the outer pulley….
I’ve been having some charging issues with my valiant. I’ve already changed the battery and even put a new alternator on, I also even purchased a new voltage regulator I am going to pick up today, because even with changing out the alternator and getting a new battery, I’m not getting enough power. (Car read 12.7 when we first installed new alternator and new battery, then showed 12.44 volts with car running, 12.48 when revved, and 12.45 when turned off).
I’m wondering if it isn’t the voltage regulator… if it is actually the alternator belt being on the wrong pulleys that is causing all of the charging issues.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks guys. (I tried to attach photo of alternator belt on the alternator pulley, but it is too large.)
