After seeing it advertised in Mopar Muscle magazine, I ordered a book titled "We were the Ramchargers" by Dave Rockwell.

I just finished reading it cover to cover for the 4th time.

Born in the 60's and growing up in the 70's I was certainly aware of the Ramchargers as just another drag racing team, but I never understood their backgrounds, their mission, or their incredible accomplishments.

These guys are undoubtedly the #1 reason why we are all on this forum and in love with our most excellent Mopars!!

I highly recommend checking this one out!

I second your recommendation. I bought the book over a year ago and have read it cover to cover a couple of times. I grew up in a small town about 40 miles west of Detroit in the late 60's and got my drivers license in 72. I can remember some of the stories that came out of the Ramchargers street racing days being discussed during bench racing sessions at the local burger hangout in the early 70s.

I agree with you guys. It was the best Mopar book published in 2014. What a great team. I brought my book to Carlisle this year to have signed by the Ramcharger members who were there!

This years best Mopar book in my opinion is Hemi - A History of Chryslers Iconic V-8 in Competition by Geoff Stunkard. So much true Mopar history.

Happy reading!

Loved we were the Ramchargers. For sure I will add the Sox & Martin book. Thanks for posting that.

Steve

I have the book and it is awesome. Those guys invented modern drag racing

I just read the book for the 2nd time since Christmas. It is an awesome story about the people who put PERFORMANCE in Mopar.

Herb McCandless told me that Dick Maxwell and Tom Hoover were the 2 guys most responsible for his success. That prompted me to research them and lead me to this book.

If you like Mopar and Drag Racing, your education is not complete until you read this book.

It's a great book. I think I'll re-read it soon. Others I can recommend are Landy's Dodges: The Mighty Mopars of "Dandy" Dick Landy and Chrysler's Motown Missile, both by Geoff Stunkard.
