Another 69 383S this one in B7/B5

Well my checklists did not go to good for start-up!

Pressure tested the cooling system and have some leakage on the 4th exhaust manifold stud on the driver side. Could not have been and end one, no it had to be the hardest one! Looks like I am going to have to pull the manifold. Sealed the studs with teflon on re-assembly so I am not sure why there is leakage... It is minor maybe 1 drop and hour but can't imagine it will fix itself.

Primed the oil pump and least all that went well. Got a good pressure reading on the gauge so I had the wife turn it over while running the drill. Oil flow back from the valley over the front of the cam looked good and no leaks showed up. Guess my rebuild on the starter was successful. Put the distributor back in and wired up the coil.

I noticed the master cylinder was already getting some surface rust. I had not put fluid in yet so that was good. Popped it off, cleaned and shot it with SS epoxy. Now I have to wait for the epoxy to set before I can add fluid and bench bleed. Hope the rest the brakes are effortless.

I rolled it out of the garage for a quick clean to get all the sweat and dust off. Noticed the alignment was terrible. It is hard to see in the garage. A quick toe and camber adjust and think I am good for a trip to the alignment shop.

Hopefully this weekend I can attempt to light it up...

i love that stripe

Thanks Moparlover, Me Too!!!

Well got it fired off last week before I went south for the Garlits show. She runs and moves under her own power. Not running real good though and let it warm up till the t-stat opened then shut it back down.

Fast foward to today and I fired her back up after putting some new plugs in. I had started it with some 26 year old plugs that were covered in Hemi Orange paint.

First thing I notice is arcing from the coil tower to either +/- post on the coil. Non stop arcing that alternates between the positive and negative post. Not good.... My first foray with the Pertonix III set-up. I had always run the Mopar electronic with GOLD box in the past. The wires are 26+ year old Taylor solid core units. I see Pertronix specificaly says not to use solid core wires. I have ordered a new set of spiral wound resistor type cables.

The Coil is new and reads about 1.4 ohms which is within the Pertronix spec. Got about 12.8 volts at the coil + in the run posistion. I went with the Pertronix unit so I can hide everything as much as possible and try to keep that factory stock look. I tried disconnecting the Factory Tach and it did not change the arcing.

Hopefully the plug wires will help as well as a new cap and rotor just for giggles.

Motor fired right up but obviously the spark timing is all over the place and is running extremely rich due to it.

Running Good now.... Guess I can't read very well........ 0.32 ohms for Ignitor III.

Picked up a flamethrower III no more arcing....

Sounds great!

Thank's - Accurate exhaust and 509 first generation cam advanced 4 degrees.

Just got done going thru your posts and I love your car. You've done a fantastic job of bringing her back for sure. That color just pops out at you. Great work.

Jim

Thanks - Can't take credit for the body and paint but the rest of it I will...

looks great !! about 4 shades lighter than mine.

B7 when done right looks really nice.

Nice Fall day here in North Georgia.....

Got the garage mostly back to normal and got the wifes GC all cleaned up and finally back in the Garage. I know she is pleased to have it back under cover.

Moved the Barracuda over but not before a little cruise around the area! Man it feels good to cruise around again in the old girl. Last time I drove the car was a short trip in 1990 before it really went into deep hibernation!

Nothing like having the windows down, air through the car, "That wonderful New Car Smell" and barking off some rubber on those second gear shifts. Amazingly no rattles either!

Gets all the heads turning and you just do not see these cars around at all. Guess all the neighbors know what I have been working on now.

Got to get the brakes a little better though. All leg with the booster problem, least it stops though!!!

I plan on tuning that new 800 AVS a bit next. I think the cam and subsequent low vacuum is letting the metering rods come up to early as it feels and smells a tad rich. I will get the kit and put the lighter springs in. It took me a while to get the old 750 Holley DP tuned in for my combo so many years ago. I suspect this Edlebrock will be easier to tune as it seems fairly close right out of the box.

looks like the cold has set in....... Time to give up on this post..

Have some details to work on over the winter with the trim etc. But at least it is ready for some spring time crusin...
