Another Horn Question

Used the horn the other day and it blew a fuse. I replaced the fuse this morning, tried the horn and it didn't work. However I noticed that the AMP gauge dropped to the bottom of Negative, every time I tried the horn. I unplugged the horns and the amp gauge still does it. I can hear a loud clicking noise from the relay. Any ideas . Oh the horn was working a couple of weeks ago.
 

Replace the relay. Since you hear the relay click then the circuit from the horn button to the relay coil is probably OK. The problem is either in the relay itself ie. burned contacts shorting to ground or the wire running from fuse box to the relay that powers the horns. Since you blew a fuse there is or was a dead short.


Get a wiring diagram at this site and if you can, use a meter or simple trouble light to assist you.

If the ammeter wildly deflects with the horns DISconnected, you likely have a massive failure inside the relay, or one of the horn feed wires has massively shorted to ground.

The relay magnetic coil......the control circuit, is a very low amperage draw. It gets constant power on one end of the coil, and feeds off to the horn button off the other end, which is grounded This doesn't draw very much, maybe, 1/2 an amp at most

Thanks to both of you for the help.
I'll try a new relay first.
 
From the symptoms, it sounds like the (green) wire from the relay output to the horns is shorted to ground. Wouldn't be the 12 V feed to the relay since that is always powered.
