Hello all
Last week I bought a 72 Dart Swinger. When I was 20 (4 decades ago) my wife and I owned a 71 Barracuda base convertible that we had to sell when we were broke. Several years ago I got my first collectible car, a 69 Camaro base convertible. In the meantime I've bought a C6 Z06 Vette, and an 82 Capri 5.0 foxbody, but have been on the lookout for a suitable E body MOPAR (71 Barracuda or 'Cuda preferrably, the best grille IMHO) in the meantime. This Dart came up for sale close to me, and I took a chance, and now I'm finding all the things the seller failed to disclose. Needs Z bar rebuilt and power steering box replaced to make it driveable. I bought it not running knowing there's an ignition issue, which I resolved with an HEI distributor, and it runs well enough for now. Pleased as hell to be back in the MOPAR fold. Looking forward to sharing knowledge with those of you who have been keeping 'em running for years.

Joe

Welcome! 71's are the best in my opinion, sorry you had to let it go. Any pics of it?

It was in 1985. Unfortunately most of those years were a blur and there are no photographs. It was rough, but solid, and I had built a 340 for it and installed a 727 and 8-3/4 rear. It is one of my biggest regrets selling that car.

:welcome: from :canada:

Dart looks pretty solid, mechanical gremlins, while annoying, are far cheaper than body and paint.
My 70 Dart, (which I too regret selling), had the same blacked out hood and six pack style scoop on f8 green body.

I agree. It has subframe connectors, too. I'll weld them on when it's on the lift (currently just bolted on). Paint looks good until you get close. Good enough for a while though.

Thanks for all the complimants.
I think it's cool as hell and it will be roadworthy soon. Starter went today <ugh>. Pickup a rebuilt unit at NAPA tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
I will of course put a pistol grip shifter stick on it eventually. Paying homage to my MOPAR roots I fabbed a custom stick for my C6 Z06 Vette. The plastic grips are made of ABS from a guy on eBay that digitized an original set then made an injection mold (big $ investment). They're quite nice and IMHO well worth the money at $50/set.
It's the little things.

Looks great. I'm sure the Vette guys will have a few choice words in there comments about it. :poke:
