Any significance in strength between stock 360 cranks and the cast aftermarket 360 -

-
Stock 360 cranks are Cast IRON, and a SCAT 9000 cast crank is cast STEEL, much stronger and at $325 or so a very good buy. These cast cranks from SCAt are about as strong as a factory forged crank, but much nicer, radiused fillets, profiled counter weights, much better fit and finish than the factory cranks

Like MRL says. Sometimes it makes $en$e to use a new part even if you have "good old" stuff. In order to have a crank properly done for my builds, I will spend $250-$300 on it. For another $60 I can have a new one that is stronger, more performance oriented from the start, and finish-quality wise almost as perfect as what my grinder gives me back.

My question is???? At what point do you have to go to FORGED???IS it 500hp is it 600hp??? or 400hp?????? If the NEW cranks are that good why even go to "FORGED

You'll probably find as many opinions on that as the "need a new block" thread...lol.
The end result has to justify the means IMO (cost vs. return). Every part has a life span. Some will never reach the end of it, some will. Generally, the stronger the crank, the lighter, and the less flex due to normal harmonics, and better the surface for the oil wedge to work with. So while any engine IMO can benefit from "the best", not all will ever reach the point of needing "the best". Not that it's a really straight answer, but to me, to get a straight answer, you have to ask a direct question. "When will it break?" is too dependant on a whole series of variables.

I asked you whether or not which one was steel or iron.
because i have heard the cast cranks called both

damn it Stroker don't make me feel guilty AND ignorant! :)

I told you which one was stronger. You cannot hear people talk when your own mouth is open all of the time.

aren't the stock cranks, cast NODULAR iron?
Still cast IRON, not STEEL.

Forged anything is stronger than cast of the same thing, period.

Why ever go with a forged crank? Racing or high rpm, or boost, or heavy Nos. Its not really a HP issue, its end use. Can you use a cast crank in a 600hp engine? Sure as long as its a Street engine. Street engines are totaly different than Race engines. Do you really drive you car on the street like you are at the track, WOT or idle? I think not otherwise you might be in jail LOL And if you actually did, it would have to be called a race engine.

Forged and billet crank flex a lot less under high stress, cast cranks flex a lot. Flex a metal object enough and BOOM it breaks.

Even if the crank doesn't go BOOM, the flex will wear out the bearings quicker and drop oil pressure over time.

Mopar wasn't pissing money in to the wind by using forged cranks in the 340. Heck folks used to drive in 70 mph zones with 3.55 or 3.91 gears.....and they sped, lol

Its more the sound then the rpm's, if the mufflers are quiet enough--like they were stock, 4,000 rpm's on the freeways is do able--and easier back when gas was cheap and the the car under warranty...no worries, if it goes you can buy something better--ah those were the days.

One of my favorite memories is nightly commutes home from tech school. There is a stretch of straight, flat highway that I had to take after 10pm. I would floor that 340 (74 Barracuda, 4sp) for the whole length (about 3 miles) and it had the best sound over 6000rpm.
