Anyone Gotten a Speeding Ticket Lately?

-
Marge and I were just talking about getting pulled over a few days ago and I’ll tell all of y’all what we tell everyone, if they ask if you know why they pulled you over, never meantion why (even if you know) and be respectful!! I guarantee a persons attitude determines the outcome of the traffic stop far more often than it doesn’t!

usually, when i get pulled over in the duster and they ask me if i know why i tell them "because your uncle used to have the exact same car, and you learned how to drive in it?"

that usually breaks the ice

What pisses me off is the officers that feel the need to ask you where you were, where you are going, etc. You are under NO obligation to answer those questions. It is not required by law to do so.
The **** if it is any of their business where I have been. I am always sober when driving. I do not weave. My speed does not fluctuate wildly.

That is good to know, I have been getting stopped a lot lately and I am always asked where I am going. I didn't know that I don't have to say and I always answer and most of the time its been "going home". I am starting to think its because I drive a 68 dart as its my only transportation, I don't have a newer car by choice. It has a slant six so I am usually putt putt along. Old cars are not that common and I think I stand out in the crowd with an old car and they just have to stop me to see why something unusual is out and about. Maybe they think I am poor and uninsured because the car isn't a show car.......who knows

One of the times I got stopped I was asked to exit the vehicle by the Colorado State trooper and have a discussion at the rear deck of my car. I think it may have been an intimidation tactic because the man was huge and towered over me (of course everyone towers over me). He didn't give me a ticket or anything but asked "maam, have you had anything to drink this evening" me: "not at all". "where are you headed" Me: Home, going home from work which is why I am dressed up" then he asked " do you have any weapons or illegal drugs on you or in the car?" Me: "none at all, I don't have pockets and you are welcome to have a look in the car"(I have literally nothing in the car) Then he went to his car to run my information and came back and said "maam, you have a great rest of your evening" I was like ….WTH just happened.

Every other time in the last year it's been similar. "where are you headed" "do you live in the area" ….but no tickets

I find its the Colorado State patrol who ask more questions and are more critical. They check the vin against the registration. Every encounter with the local Sheriff has been so friendly and they usually ask if I am ok and seem to have a much better bedside manner and are more caring about human beings.

As a safety note, never stand between your car and the patrol car, a drunk driver (or any distracted driver) could come along and rear-end the patrol car and smash you between the front bumper of the patrol car and the rear bumper of your stopped vehicle. Better to stand to the right side of the vehicles (passenger side). Troopers should know this already, most of them are killed by traffic, not by bullets.

then he asked " do you have any weapons or illegal drugs on you or in the car?" .

i have never been asked that question
of course, the officer usually walks up to my window, and says "do you have your license on you"
to which i reply "i sure do, but im not reaching for anything untill you know there is a loaded 9 in the doorpocket, and a .45 under the armrest"
that usually get their attention

Good practice! It’s always smart to inform the officer if you have a weapon within reach before reaching for or opening any compartment. That way you don’t pop open the glove box, there’s a hand gun and just like that you’re staring at the business end of the cops sidearm!

I was reading a concealed carry safety book one time and it even mentioned that it’s not a bad idea to pick up the gun with your index finger and thumb, and hand it to the officer and have him remove the mag and hang on to it until he’s ready for you to leave. Then he can give you the firearm and mag back separately.

I don't dislike the Police, I just have a problem with anyone trying to "work" me for any reason. I certainly don't like anyone thinking that they can bully me when the law is clearly on my side.
