Don't have the digits on the side of the block and not really sure how to tell the difference. VIN says it originally had a 273. Thanks.

Where have you looked for the numbers? They are on the drivers side and pretty big raised numbers. They will be in a series with other numbers.

A looked on both sides didn't see anything. Unfortunately don't really have a chance to look now since this was just a car I went to look at.

From what I see. It's a small block. That's about all you can tell from the pic.
Need some numbers of some kind.

Dang, thought maybe there were some sort of design differences between the small blocks externally. Thanks anyway.

With that style 2 nipple valve cover breather, on the right cover, that tells me it's a 70, maybe a 71 engine.
That's of course, the valve covers are original to that pictured engine.
Those are the only 2 years that style breather was used with the 2 ports.

My guess... 70 and up 318 .
all 273s were Red and all 69 and down 318s were Red / ( Orange Police )
Due to it being a Blue 2bbl ill say 70-up 318

I realize it's "crowded" down there, see if you can scrape and read the number on the driver side, top of the block, right below the head / deck parting line.

I'm no genius but it's not a slant 6.

LMFAO

front of the engine, drivers side, right below the head, there are stamped numbers indicating the size. just scrape with putting knife, and there you go! easy!

My 69 Coronet had a red 318....
My 69 Fury's original 318 was Blue - maybe because it was a very late build 69 ?? i did find it odd tho.

It's somewhere between a 273 and a 360. If you're lucky it's a 340, if your really lucky it's a LA roller block.

70 318 with a 2 barrel
Looks the same to me, besides the belt configuration.

Judging by the carb and smog, it's an early '70 318 (8/69-12/31/69. The A/C compressor looks to be '67-9.
