Anyone install three speed with overdrive behind a slant six

-
I call it a 3+1 because;

In a regular 4 speed; you can power-shift into top-gear. You can shift into Fourth the same way that you shift into any other gear.
But in the 3+1; if you try that, the 18tooth M/S gear will instantly shred, and usually takes the rest of the gears with it, or at the least, one other.
I doubt that gear can take any more than a 100hp shock into the input. I blew three of them up before I called it quits.
FWIW I think Rusty is right on track, saying that combo will like 3.91s. With those, it is hardly likely that you will ever shock overdrive because; 1) good luck making 100 hp at redline, but more importantly, 2) 4500 in Direct is like 92mph, and it is hardly likely that you would ever powershift it there,lol.

But hey, if you do blow it up, and the other gears do survive; just do what I did, namely;
Take it apart, clean it out making dead sure that you got all the broken chit out, put it back together with that pissy gear just taking up space;
then just put a GVod behind it and start splitting gears. Your ratios will be;
3.09-2.41-1.67-1.30-1.00-.78od; Hyup six ratios with nice tight splits of;
.78-.69-.78-.77-.78 With 3.91s that makes roadgears of
12.08-9.42-6.53-5.09-3.91-3.05
12.08 is a great starter gear for a slanty, and it will idle at 500rpm=3.3mph
6.53 is a nice city gear, offering 30mph =2440, and 4500=55mph
3.05 offers 65mph=2470rpm, very nice.

You don't have to split gears all the time. Only when yur in a hurry.
However once you get used to splitting, and then when you don't , it's like WTH, where'd the power go?
Outshifting First at 3500 going into Second, the rpm will drop to 1890. But hitting the splitter instead, will get you 2730; zoom-zoom.

Lets say your slanty makes 125 ftlbs from 1890 to 3500 all the way the same.
at 3500, that would be 83hp
at 1890, that would be 45hp,
but
at 2730, that would be 65hp; a gain of 20 stinking hp.
For reference;
125ftlbs at 4500 would be 107hp
