Have a nice 99 Magnum 5.9,with fresh 6671 Cummins reman replacement heads.Mild cam 224@.050/.491 lift.Any experiences would be welcomed,and appreciated.Done a few sets of heads,just not Magnums.

I think the MP head porting template is based on a Magnum....if you can find one. It sure isn't an LA head.

The set on my 5.2 my friend and I touched up a bit with a dremel. Guide bosses and around where the valve meets the port had a couple edges that we smoothed out. There's lots of room for improvement in stock magnums.

Thanks,Pishta. Can't find the M/P templates anywhere.A freind used the S/B templates on a set of 587 castings. He won the class in sand drags with it.

Thanks, for the response,Rocker.I don't wan't to tear apart a good running long block ,for 5 horsepower.

These heads also have horrible pushrod pinch areas. I didn't touch mine, but you can probably gain some there too.

Following the Steve Dulcich article on Magnum heads. The article said to open that restriction from .790",to .930". Changes everything, window wise.Neat intake port.

justin hasen't done any magnums yet?only wayto garranty results with the bench.....

So what happened with having them ported?

Just because I haven't done any doesnt mean I can't...

I bet money I can get better than average numbers, and you can have them retested somewhere else to be assured.
How far are you looking to go with these things?

Justin, whenever you get around to some work on the Magnum's, please post some photo's..........as this pic will forever burn my retina's.....lmao.

I will..lol
MASSIVE pinch, 308's are the same way just about, except they have the older/j head port from there after and with better exhaust ports like w2's...which is why those 308's are good.
It looks by the way they made the mag ports short/squaty as if they were borrowing from another car manufacture...hmmm

none the less, as much as i may make fun of them...they are mopar and am determined no matter what i work on to get the best numbers i can.:burnout:

Cool! I know you can get it done. Some of the modern ports across the board look like doodoo to us older guys, but they do flow. Go figure :D.

Justin, disassembled the heads.Exhaust valves are fried.Did one intake port. The P/R restriction, .780" as measured. The guideline I followed said .930",I did it.Obviously, opened up the pocket ,as you know already. Haven't taken the time yet,to compare costs. Comparing these finished correctly,or new RHS heads.

The Magnum heads on the 360 I just sold worked very well. There were 2.02 intakes installed, the intake and head were port matched, there was some work done in the bowl area and there was work done in the P/R pinch area. I never had the heads apart so I can't say all that was done.

wether you need to do the pinch comes down to how much flow you r looking to get. 240? 250? th window might already be large enough for 250cfm.
the bowl/ssr/roof are where i would start. I have never simply just opened the pinch by itself 'nothing else done' and seen any increase.

those heads arent known for going beyond 250's from what i keep reading, even done by shady and other acclaimed pros

240-ish ,would be outstanding.Moved the p/r restriction,as described above.Smoothed bowl to 88%,streamlined valve guide boss, teardrop style.Rounded/smoothed SSR, tapered long side vane down to a tip.The p/r restriction, does wonders for line of sight.

Shot 2,still have to square up the gasket surface.A shout out for Saetun with his picture assistance.Thank You.

Cut the guide down to half of its height, id love to show u numbers before and after that.

Also be careful of the bowl and farside bowl, u can screw it up quick if you dont shape it right.

Show better, closer pics of the bowl.

Much appreciated. Was taught to work slowly, creep up on it.Sorry.about the over glaring picture.

AWESOME!! I'm just getting ready to do this myself, practicing on some old head I found in my buddy's barn.

What tool is used to do this? Some sort of bit that can chucked in a drill? Is it the same tool that could be used to cut down the guides to clear keepers/retainers for higher lift applications?
