will the axles from a 71 a body scamp 71/4 rear, work in a A body 83/4 housing ?

No they won't. The only factory axles that will be a direct fit will be 8 3/4 A-body 72 and earlier. Some C-bodies could be cut and resplined

7-1/4 axles have 4 bolts to the housing, 8-3/4 have five.

Large bolt pattern 7 1/4 axles have 5 bolts to the housing, but they still will not fit the 8 3/4
