I would be interested in reading about some RB stroker builds? Specs, successes, and failures..Did a search on the Internet and lots of kits available in many dif sizes but not to much working knowledge.
Sure $1995 from Source for a 540 inch kit(rotating assembly) but what about the main bearing caps?? Is a stock block strong enough? Girdle?
I read its not real expensive to build one.. But how do you build a stroker to hold up to some track time?

MUSCLE MOTORS. sells any stroker short block for 4995.00 complete...WOW
I hear strokers come apart easy? I also read they come apart because the assembler did not know what he was doing? Mancinni better than Source One for a rotating assembly?

Shirley someone has some interest in this thread?!? No?
Dnt make me go to bigblockdart?? Anybody? This threads lonely

for the price of a crate motor now days id buy one already dun.if I had it to do over I would have.because I have more then the price of one in mine.not to mention the headaches.of all the running back and forth to the muchine shop.then puting it together and back apart to make sure of things.BUT I can say I did it for what thats worth.mines a 512 with 440 sorce parts.........Artie

Mine runs fine ... Napa machine shop work stock 452 heads I ported n polished also bronze guided .. Manley valves Keith Black Piston kit .. Next will be bigger better I spent under 3000$ that includes the block a 1977 400 B out of a motor home ..

RB strokers can be from mild to wild, depending on what you want to do with it. I like the 493 for ease of parts, but the 505 is a little better IMO. They make a ton of torque no matter what. 600hp is about the base on these stokers and they just go up from there depending how deep your pockets go.

A 493 with a good solid cam and some lightly worked over RPM heads and intake will make 600/650. Keeping the rpms on the lower side, say under 6500rpm, the stock blocks will handle it if everything is done up right. Of course if you want a MONSTER BBM, after market block is really the way to go. This way you can use the Big 4.50" bore and not have to stroke it to the moon to get the CI unless you want 572ci, thats 4.500 bore 4.500 stroke.

I'm building a low deck 400, 3.90 stroke,6.70 H beam rods, Wiesco zero deck flat tops, which works out to 470 cu. in. Stage VI P5244979 max wedge ported heads, And a STR-14 intake. I'm starting out with the single Dominator top and a 8896 Holley, but I plan on running the 2-four top with a pair of 660 holley's or 750 carters which ever the rules will allow at the time. And a 650 flat tappet cam. All this is going in the 68 Dart that Guitar Jones is doing the chassis work on.

This is a 470 we did last year. Solid roller 1050 Dominator 12 to 1 T&D rockers Mahle pistons Compstar rods Milodon Oil/pump-pan Victor intake Indy 440-C cast iron heads Main girdle Crank scraper

730HP @ 6800rpm W/700+HP from 6000-7500rpm

I am going to put the 383 I got built in and then build a 512 stroker out of my 440 block. have a few friend that used the 440 source kit. Worked very well and running great times at the track 10.90 area in the 1/4, engine only, pump fuel and streetable gears. Have been thinking of grabbing the 440 source heads with port job. But undecided.

What is the offset on those intake rockers? I'm needing some for my max wedge stageVI. I think it is .650 I need.

Okay here is what has been done to mine. We started with the Stroker kit from 440 source to make a 512 stroker. I got about thirty passes out of that ,then broke a rod #2. So here it is. 440 source crank, 440 source girdle, Icon pistons (they come with 440 source kit 10.9 compression). Lunati 636 solid roller with roller lifters, double roller timing chain with torrington bearing. Edelbrock 88 cc heads port matched with K1000 springs with titanium keepers.Super Victor Intake, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Smith Brother Push rods.Used a thin head gaskets I think .020"thick.1250 Dominator. TTI headers,5500 Turbo Action Stall. Dana with 4.10 gears The car has gone 10.30 at 126mph. I had a 4.30 gear and it went 10.19 at 132mph in a 3400 lb car.

What were you winding at the top end with the 4.30's in?

I shifted at 6700rpm and would go threw the line at 7000. This is a 28" M/T Drag radial. The car is very consistent if the track is prepped right. I ran at Budds creek the last test and tune in December. Ran 10.23 first pass, 10.24 2nd and 3rd it ran a 10.23 again.

...............there is already major threads on this subject...........check in the forum section..........kim........

Thanks KIM, I try to search but sometimes I don't enter the right info.
Been doing lots of READING!

Why do people preffer the 400 block over a 440 block? Is the post 74 440 really a stronger
block?

Who makes an aftermarket 440 block besides WORLD?
to tall a coin for me?

What is a 1/2 filled block mean?

The 400 block can be a bit lighter, and is shorter allowing better header clearance, shorter and lighter pistons, and are cheaper than 440 blocks.
The MP Mega blocks are nice upgrades over oem blocks and are usually not too expensive.
Most blocks are hit and miss as to how thick they are and year doesn't seem to matter.

Any opinions on Muscle Motors?
$4995 for a short block is pretty hard to beat
MP mega blocks are $3400 by themselves.

What comes with that short block?

Most stroker BB's we do are anywhere from 9000.00 to 15,000.00 so 5K for a short block is about right... but price is only one part of the build...quality and HP per $$$ is what you should be concentrating on.

Means after a .60 over bore cement in half the block to keep the cylinder walls from shacking or loosing compression , on 400 blocks the webs n outer of the blocks are thicker than any 440 ever built and can take a over bore up t0 . 60 the 71 72 400 even bigger overbore . Hope this helps ..
