Behind the times money wise

Good thing I don't mind a little squalor lol.

IF I was thinking of replacing countertops I'd probably DIY poured in place concrete.

I've given up on many improvements I wanted to do due to an early retirement/disability as I'll be durned to break the bank.

I'd be going broke running my A/C if I lived on that durned hot hillside you live on.

I do everything myself.......The way I look at it, it's me making the big bucks by saving them. (A penny saved is a penny earned) :)

Buy the tools and learn how to use them.

There is literally nothing that you cannot do for yourself.........It just might take a little longer.

Yeah right, try it when you're 76 and still recovering from an accident 18 months ago.:rolleyes:

Hell, even in one’s early 60’s…..

I used to do all of my own stunts as well, but in the past couple years I’ve started thinking more and more about my mortality, the things I’ve done, and the things I still want to do, and it just makes sense for me to farm-out some of the things I’m not proficient at in order to spend that same time doing the things that I want to do, and that make me happy.

Not home improvement but we just bought a fresh cut Frazier Fur yesterday. Probably 6.5 foot tall and not real big around. $175 + tax.

Are you kidding me :BangHead:

Christmas is my wife's favorite holiday of all so....

Benjamin Moore Aura is running a tick over 100/gal in my neck of the woods.
I have used BM paint before. You may disagree, but I have found that the better level of paint at Lowes has worked, covered and lasted just as well for me as BM (or Serwin Williams) for a lot less. Professional painters may use it, but I doubt if they pay retail.

Our house needs paint... thinking of doing a wrap, it would be cheaper!!!!
Have you seen the "photos" they put on garage doors? Something that looks like an aircraft hanger or train coming out of a tunnel? Maybe you could get one of a "mansion" to wrap the house. Me, I'd do something the opposite just to tee the neighbors off...something like the Beverly Hillbillies wood house in the hill country.

I'm having my 1/2 bath remodeled, something > I < would have done five years ago. I received three estimates and two were close and one was insane. I look at the price of material and wonder what in the world has happened. Paint $55 a gallon, the cabinet and sink combo, $2200, mirror and lighting $1100. Through labor in, which I'm good with, and it's $6,500+ to redo a 5x8 bathroom. We did the toilet and flooring a couple of years ago so that was done. Maybe it's me, but I thought that I could have done it 5 years ago for half of the material cost. To do a full bath, which I would like to do, would be $30,000, I'm guessing. I haven't needed to do much with the house, as far as remodeling lately, so I guess I'm behind the times, but damn.
Yep. Tell me about it. I’m building my own house and the cost for a sheet of drywall blows my mind.

HA! Being that I met wifey while we were both in the Navy, I recently suggested we paint the house in battleship grey and number the garage door like the ships used to do with big white numbers and black drop shadow. Guess how THAT went over...
