started blowing fuses.narrowed it down to my autometer guages, temp. or oil pressure.unhooked em and all is good.no bare wires shorting out.this seems kind of odd,ive never ran into this, but i quess anything is possible.i didnt check the senders, dont really know how.has anyone else had autometer guages or senders go bad and blow fuses? or is this a fluke?

Frankly I'd suspect a problem either right at the gauges, or a pinched wire

Inspect the studs carefully. Does Autometer still use the same studs for electrical and for mechanical clamp on the gauges? Look over the insulators. Maybe you got a "thread" of a wire strand down in there.

Frankly, hard to say with a custom deal like this. "You" put in in, LOL, "you" find it.

Might also try just wiggling things. Use the smallest fuse possible for testing

What all is on this fuse circuit?

yea checked wires, unhook at the guages and it wont blow the fuse.so it has to be at the guages or the sender

Don't discount that even unlikely, it MIGHT an internal problem IE defective gauge

I would start (if you have not) by unhooking the senders for a bit.

Then pull the sender wires off right at the gauges.

got ya,have you ever in your life heard of senders doing that?i have not, but, anything is possible.ill try it tonight

Bumping this thread as I have an Autometer coolant/temp gauge that I think is pooched. Its an Autometer #2635. After 1 minute of engine running it reads over 250(pegged)but actual temp is nowhere near that hot (verified with temp gun).
This problem started last year after thermostat failed and car overheated. I replaced sender last year after overheating and gauge still pegs.

Any idea how to test/chk coolant temp gauge?

Thanks
Steve

You have the correct sender? I believe those gauges are a "bridge" circuit and must be grounded. That is, there should be a ground terminal right on the gauge.

Hey Del new sender is physically identical as the previous one.
Original autometer sender is "self grounding"
