Last night was a bit all over the place, but I managed to knock out a lot. The driver-side subframe connector perch is now 100% finished, and I blended the underside of the floor where the driver patch panel was installed. I also turned the new leaf spring bushings on the lathe and polished up the pulley so it’s ready to drop off at the machine shop. On top of that, I laid out the bars in the car the way I’d like them. Originally, I was planning to go 25.5 and chase Competition Eliminator, but I’ve decided to stick with nostalgia Pro Stock and run the car on an 8.50 chassis cert instead.

So the car is now ready for the back-half work to begin. With my birthday falling this past weekend, I decided to take some time to relax and enjoy it with my wife before surgery on Wednesday. I did manage to score a Craftsman horizontal band saw that only needed a new blade, and Pops absolutely nailed it on the chute release handle. The new pack also arrived, and I found a vintage chute I can use as a template to have a reproduction made.

Nice teamwork! I'm sure you didn't come to Illinois to buy the band saw but it looks like the one in the welders garage.

That chute lever would also double nicely as a butter knife :p

Started on the chute pack bracket today and got the bends just the way I wanted. Once I’m healed up from surgery tomorrow (about six weeks…), I’ll pull the car off the rotisserie to start setting up the back half and make the side fillers for the mount to follow the contour.

will there be tubing on the backside of the parachute mount tied to the roll bar tubing or frame?
So the tether for the chute will go to the frame as I will have a mount at the bumper. The pack mount will have a rib for support down the middle on the inside and both ends boxed in. to be rigid as the aluminum piece is nothing more than a mount for the pack.

Been a couple of days since I posted any thing and progress will be slow for the next six weeks after having had surgery on last Wednesday but I'm feeling itchy to get back out to the shop and at the car. Great news though the mass wasn't Cancerous!

Great news! any follow up?
Yes right now healing they took a 1.1 lbs mass out of my chest it was about the size of a coke can and I have a drain. But it looks like by this weekend the drain should be out. Not exactly the way I wanted to start out being 33 but im glad it's over and in a few weeks it will be old news.

So, I couldn’t sit still for long… I started thinking and came up with this plan: narrow the tank 6.5 inches so it’ll drop right into the new rails. Sure, a fuel cell would be easier—but where’s the fun in that? The 1972 rules state that an “original stock-type fuel tank must be used,” but they don’t specify whose OEM tank. That little loophole makes a narrowed ’64–’66 Mustang tank the perfect solution.

Last night I went down the rabbit hole studying wheel openings for the car — doing my homework before The guys at Colorado hot rod heaven work their magic this spring. I’ve narrowed it down to my final 10 choices, and I want to hear what you guys think. Which one’s your pick? (And yes, before anyone asks — they’re all altered wheelbase cars.)
