Hi buddies

I noticed a difference between my '71 Demon bulkhead wires and the '71 Dart wiring diagram.
(I do not have the '71 Demon wiring diagram, so, I am doubtful).

On the Dart wiring diagram, the "T" connector holds a yellow wire, and the "L" connector holds a dark green w/red tracer wire.
On my Demon, it's the exact opposite.
Except for that, the wiring is the same

Is it normal?
Does anyone have the 1971 Demon wiring diagram?
Thanks
François

Right here
Service Manuals – MyMopar

You may find mistakes but in general pretty accurate.
Most wires will have a code that identifies what its for. Those can be a big help. For example asking about a black wire compared to asking about R6A - Bk12 which translates to Alternator output circuit section A, Black 12 gage.

Yellow was often used for starter relay and also used for dome light return.

Looking at the plymouth version, the rallye instrument cluster and standard instrument harness switches the cavities for the horn and starter wires. Looking at the engine diagram, that may be a mistake in the instrument harness drawing.
Here's where it is best then to compare with what is on the car.

Yes Mattax, you're right.
As I have to replace my dashboard harness, I will compare the new one with the old and invert the two wires if necessary.
Just wanted to find an explanation.
Probably a difference between standard and rallye clusters. Badly documented in Chrysler wiring diagrams

Thanks a lot

I believe there is a mistake "some years" between the starter/ yellow wire and the horn green/ red wire. I believe it's OK on one half and incorrect on the other half, AKA inst. panel harness vs engine bay.

We're trying to say is that there seems to be an error on one of the instrument wire diagrams. The engine diagram is the same regardless of the dash option. Since these circuits connect to from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment, in this regard the rallye and standard dash harness should be the same.

However you will have to verify.
I'd do it this way.
Check the engine harness to confirm S2 and H2A connector positions match the diagram.

If not, correct the diagram (and let us know what you find).

Then look at your ralley harness to be sure they match.
Only one of these is correct

T spot in the dash harness is for the green and red horn feed,
L spot in the dash harness is for the yellow solenoid feed.

The wires on the engine side connector are the same color as the dash harness wires. Line them up with your replacement harness before you install it and you'll see.

When I mapped my bulkhead connector from the wiring diagram I ran into the same problem as you. The diagram is wrong.

Good luck

Good morning Mattax and Troy

In fact, you're both right. The '71 Dart wiring diagram I downloaded on MyMopar is wrong :

Troy, your harness was correctly wired when I got it, but following this diagram, I inverted the T and L spots.
Now, I just have to do the opposite and invert back the two wires. :D

I checked on my Demon engine harness and in the central connector (on the L spot), there is a yellow wire.

:thankyou: guys for your help.

The separate diagrams on MyMopar are not factory and are not from the factory service book. I have seen way too many errors on these to trust, get a factory service manual.

My info was from the factory service manual, and it was wrong as well.

Glad you are on the right track.:)

I am. :)
Today, I took the old harness out of the dashboard.

And I converted my ammeter into a voltmeter (here tested with a battery charger)

Next step : installing the new harness into the dash.

I plan to power the voltmeter on the fusebox.
Is there a good ground on the cluster itself? Or do I have to connect the (-) pole of the voltmeter elsewhere on the car body?

I grounded mine under a circuit board mounting screw, and have the board (extra ground strap) grounded to the dash frame.
