Bullitt | The Car Chase | Full Scene | Warner Classics

But 3 of those had been replaced while the car was running the course of the high-speed chase.
No doubt. However, don't people look at things like that? I love it when the left front fender of a car gets caved in during a chase, and a few minutes later the fender is fine.

That sharp right hander where the white car gets smashed on the corner of the intersection was an accident.....should never have happened, but they kept the footage in.

I was always under the belief that the guy on the motorbike who slid off wasn't supposed to be there. But there are stories out now that it was staged. Although looking at McQueen's reaction when he takes off suggests it was an accident. And Bill Hickman's wry smile as he checks the biker in his mirror also suggests it wasn't planned and that he thought it was a gag setup to surprise him. Check the Hitman's reflection in the Charger rear-view mirror.....that angle shouldn't be possible..... all for the camera.

I've heard that the missed corner where McQueen had to back up also was not planed but the directors liked it and left it in.

You guys are a crack-up. Yeah they lose half a dozen caps, pass the same Beetle & LeMans a few times,.....I'm sure the city of SF would've loved to let them shut down the streets all day long just so they wouldn't have to multi-position shoot the same chase & string the same run into a longer one. Charger hitting parked car, 'stang blowing same corner & having to back up, wrecking the 'stang into the ditch & busting the suspension at the end.....not in the script.....the guy on the bike was scripted, the 'stang went a bit more off-road than intended. The cars were live-miked, you can see the good ole' fuel dump out the pipes when they nail it, why McQueen double revs/clutches upshifting is a mystery only He can answer, or why the highway required more down/upshifting(:drama:), ..........this scene was an accomplishment considering where it was done, & the way it was done, about as realistic as it gets. But I guess in the new pampered CGI world, where nothing is real, We can sit here & count hubcaps & pick it apart.
The only detail I never caught, is where/how the shotgun shot hit the windshield, the 12ga. was fired......but a real load of shot at that distance would've taken out a good sized hole......

Did you ever notice that the Charger loses 6 hubcaps during the chase.
did you know that mcqeen built the mustang , and no one could get over the bone stock charger would outrun it ? The only thing the mustang had was in the corners , on the straights the charger was all over it !!!
There was even a write up in one the past popular magazines (Saturday evening post ,I think it was) about it .

There were more than one 'stang, & the chase one broke shocks & shock mountings, it was a mess.....considering the skinny stock redlines Hickman wheeled vs the aftermarket skins on McQueen's ride, pound for pound the Charger aquitted itself pretty well.
