Hello,

I found a nice Duster (based on the pictures) that is out of state. Has anybody used escrow.com to inspect a car out of state?

I was thinking about using their inspection service. If the car checked out ok I was going to use their escrow service. Then I was going to used DAS to ship the car.

Has anybody gone through this scenerio? Any advice would be appreciated.

I may just fly out to and look at the car (thank god for frequent flyer miles!). That's probably what I should do. I don't know.

Thanks,

If you can fly out and check the car out yourself,i bought 2 cars out of state before, the first i had someone else check out for me,when i got the car delivered it was'nt exactely as described, the second one i drove out to see so i knew what i was getting for my money..as far as das i used them before with no issues,as a matter of fact when the car was brought to my house it was covered with dirt,i called and complained and they offered to pay to have it cleaned...

Thanks,

I 've bought several cars out of state, and each time, I located a repair shop that I paid to go over the cars, including a test drive. This was more than 6 years ago, but I paid ~ $100 for a full report, for each car. It was money well-spent IMHO, as I dropped out as a buyer on a couple cars, after the reports. I used references I found on each inspector and spoke to the inspector before hiring that person/shop. It takes time but worth it.

If you can somehow see the car yourself before buying, that's best.

Another idea: Using this site or the moparts site to get a trusted regular in that area, to go take a look. I'm in Northern Va. and had a Moparts guy look at a car in Sacramento Ca. I was seriously considering. Spent $75 and declined to continue pursuing that car, based on the recommendation from the Moparts buddy.

You can also try regulars - people at this site who can check a car.

Hope this helps...

You can try the members on the site.

I'd be happy to go look at a car if it was a reasonable distance from me for anyone on the site.

One thing that happened to me. I sent a member of a site to go look at a car. got the report back that it was a pile of you know what and not worth the money. So I passed... Guess who bought the car? The idiot I sent to look at it. There are some snakes out there. You need to keep that in mind too.

Thanks for all of the info. I am awaiting a return call from the seller to get some more information on the car. He had sent a bunch of pictures and everything looks great.

I am probably putting the cart before the horse but I've never bought anything this big 1,800 miles away from my house!

The car is located about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

Being a member of GWRRA( Gold Wing Road Riders ***.) i have a Gold book with every member listed per town in the U.S. and other countries and it is listed as to the service they will render to a member. I can call a member in any town and ask them to inspect anything for me and i will do the same for them or any of you guys. Bought cars this way and always turned out great. PM me with your info and i'll help you out if you don't want to fly. Give me a phone # and i'll call ya and we can talk. Help if i can.
