so i was out measuring everything for inboarding my springs. and while i was at it i was going to make the shackles for the cal-tracs.

BUT after i had everyhing figured out, i noticed i can't put cal-tracs if i have inboarded springs!

is there anyway i can still make them work?
what else can i do that does the same as cal-tracs, other then the 3 link system(i dont like the no ground clearence idea)

The cal-tracs will work with the inboard springs.
I've heard Calvert worked out something for this.
Maybe notching the boxes will work. I know I saw pictures somewhere withthe springs inboard and cal-tracs.

o wow.....i did not relieze they bolted to the front hanger.

how could of i missed something like that. thanks though!

by the way, i can only find one write up on inboarding the springs on a dart. are there others out there?

They don't actually bolt to the front hangers.
The spring bolt goes thru them.
Bigblockdart.com has a tech artical on moving springs.

Quick and ugly notch...

That picture is one of a series showing the wheel openings getting bigger for taller tires. It just happens to show the notch in the spring box for the Caltracs.

so i was going to make my cal-tracs today...and i thought i had it all under control by just copying this one http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/Traction.html

but it says "To keep the forces equal the bottom hole of the bellcrank should be the same distance from the pivot point as the pressure point. In this example the measurement from the spring eye to the second spring was 12". We use half that measurement (6") to determine the length of our bellcrank. (See figure 6) Don't forget that you need 4 identical brackets."

so its saying i can't use the bellcrank example that is 6x6x6....???

if not does anyone know what the measurement is from the spring eye to the first spring?

i would go measure it but that means i need to go all across town, come back home and fax all the info to a friend....its getting late since i have a final exam to study for tonight.

Littleman, that is the same reference I used for mine - good info. Just remember use it as a guide, not a blueprint. The leverage/geometric "principles" are the important part. My cranks ended up measuring around 5" hole-to-hole, as I recall. Where the spring pressure point contacts is important but not a precsion measurement. As long as they hit close to the end of the 2nd leaf they'll be fine. You probably have a good range of around an inch more or less. Here's a link to my Duster page with some pics. Maybe give you some ideas:
