Has anyone had their flat tappet camshaft nitride infused? I am thinking about having this done for the 408 for the '69 Barracuda in order to increase the case hardness and lobe surface lubricity (is that really a word?). Comp will charge me an additional $105 on top of their custom grind fee. I have flattened my share of solids in the past and am seriously considering this. I would just like to hear from those who have had it done and also from anyone with pros/cons. TIA.

You know what sucks... it probably cost them $5 to do the cams.

When we would send stuff out, mostly cranks, to be nitrided, they would charge us by the pound with a discount on volume.

With the junk cores that seem to be showing up all over, not being able to get some of the Lunati or Comp Hi-Lift grinds for months... yeah it sucks.

There is no con I can think of except the cost. But, honestly, you might want to ask yourself why the others went flat... It's not the hardness of the cam. Nitiriding would generally be looked at for endurance engines that have careful oil control and limited splash, plus the fast ramp speeds and stiff springs. Another thought (since you have to buy lifters anyway) is to look into the Racer Brown (IIRC) EDM lifters. They have a hole that feeds pressurized oil directly on the lifter face, and my guess is, they would be more effective and the same or cheaper than performance lifters and the nitriding.
