Can’t figure out this carb and idle

    69 cuda 383 rpm performer intake edelbrock 1411 carb 10:5 to 1, summit cam not sure what my timing or idle should be to get a good starting point, car will start and run but not long, initial timing is good 01AA86F8-FCDC-4C06-A8CC-D911DD557D07.jpeg

    I'm fighting the same on a C10 build with stock 350 tried playing with timing + many other things -- seems to be common problem with Edelbrocks do you have a fuel regulator on it my carb has been around for awhile -- tore it down and found some debris so ordered a rebuild kit if that doesn't fix it I'll move on to ignition

      Set initial @ 14, back the mixture screws out 2 turns from lightly seated.
      With the choke set it should start and run. Is the choke adjusted properly? Try opening/closing choke after the engine fires to see if you can keep it running.
      Put the timing light on the coil wire, start the engine and watch the light when the engine stalls. Does the light flash until the engine stops turning?

        does the motor load up and die after about a minute? Fuel pressure, back it down to 4-5

          Disconnect the Vcan vacuum line, yank the Vcan over to whatever timing she likes,and crank the idle speed up to 1000rpm, until you get the carb half-azzed working, and then start backing the timing off; you can't hurt it at idle doing this,and it will give you more time to diagnose it.
          If you can't seem to get anywhere, do a LeakDown test, to see if the valves are closing.

          Lets back up a bit. First off, did you degree the cam per the cam card?

          If not, do it. and we'll start from there, because if you didn't, all these answers are WRONG as FUCK.

            Good info but the bottom line is that the OP hasn't been on since he opened the thread. If it were a big issue with me I would at least respect the fellow members willing to help and stay online long enough for a conversation. There are a lot of unanswered questions.

            guy says car will start and run but not for long......What would cause a car just to die..? What changes during the first.. lets say 2 minutes?

            The choke comes off, if it's working right.
