Can't get rid of my old parts

-
Man, I think that young folks may like these cars but in the future theyll just want to buy it and drive it away they dont need original parts they wont be working on it. Maybe it will be LS swapped on the recommendation of their " mechanic". I go to classic car shows and I will predict that car shows will still be there for the gathering and socializing but the people will be driving up in new cars. The hobby is changing its not so much about working on the cars any more...modern upgrades? wheels, stereos bolt on power adders? sure but resto? I think thats slowing down and lets be honest the rat rod thing was an indicator just get it running dont worry about how it looks...that was when people decided resto was too expensive.

Probably a lot of truth to that, as the market has changed, and will continue to do so.

I recall the first few times I watched the Barret-Jackson auctions on TV, when they used to have a lot of old Rolls Royce and Duesenberg-type cars, with Alain De Cadanet doing the voice over or commentary. Back then those cars brought “big money”, but now? Not so much. (Same thing for Model A’s and 1950’s jukeboxes). The demand, the market for them, has shrunken considerably, and I have a feeling the market for fully restored, period correct muscle cars will decline as well, as people just want their creature comforts. Maybe not in my day, but it’s coming, I’m sure.

I was driving down the street and saw a 1940s coupe for sale with the big straight 8 front end, Im not sure what it was but I thought " I could prob get it cheap..." then thought "but what would I do with it?" it would go from that sellers yard to my yard and still sit. But I think Nostaligia itself may be a shrinking market people just throw things away and buy new. I myself dumped alot of money into my Dart thinking it would be worth something and I suppose it is but Ill never make all of it back maybe half and then again maybe even less... I told my son" I just saved it from being crushed in the 90s is all i did" but who knew? we all thought things would last forever.

I bet the rat rod thing was started by a bored beer alcoholic that had spent his rent money on more beer!

How many people today, have the desire, the $, a garage to work, tools to work with, or any skill? to work on an old car!!!?? Some, and maybe not that many today.

I remember when the "modern Challenger came out, 1 year later, going to a Mopar show, half the cars entered were the New ones!!!!! Have not been back to one since!  :thankyou:

The age old trope (before that was even a word, IIRC) was that mary jane gives you "the munchies".

Medical science is now disproving that?
And some of it certainly does make you hungry, especially if smoking to excess.
No Medical Science has been thoroughly done or even tried to be done, that I know of, just saying what worked for my wife and I. I realized earlier I should've mentioned very little testing has been done to see what all the benefits might be, or what the various Terps do. Some is known. I smoke very little at a time now. Latest one I like really helps with all the stress I've been having about moving & downsizing. And helps me focus on things. Some make you paranoid. Chocolate candies help her sleep better than gummies. Many different Terpenes.

Rat rod thing is from drinking or stoning & sitting there with a lot of extra parts & having an imagination. Much is way cool, a lot is pure junk, but even the junk has bursts of genius & why didn't I think of that moments.
Get that 40s car stick a 318 auto in it & you've got something cool. Rat Rod Al on FABO has posted a lot of pics of neat projects like that, which proves that there's still one out there for anyone that wants one. Just do it.

I admit to each his own, but just my take, I have a hard time putting a toilet in such for a seat, for example!!
All my life, every time I see something I scratch my head over, I always just say out loud and to myself "WHY!!" But to each their own!

As a Florida Resident Medical Marijuana is available. My wife & I both got 'Licences'. A couple summers ago I quit drinking, as every summer I get easily dehydrated. I immediately lost 8 lbs, and kept losing & noticed I wasn't as hungry. Wondered if it was an illness, until I picked up, And Read thoroughly, the paperwork that came with the Med Marijuana paperwork. It has information about Terpenes(they give odor & taste to foods, flowers & much more).
It turns out one Terp, Humelene, it a known Appetite Suppressant. Now we look at the Terps before choosing the strains we buy. I've now lost over 25 lbs and am keeping it off. It seems once your brain is used to it, the other strains, with less Humelene, don't make you as hungry.

I'm sure the pharma companies don't want you to know this!
There’s a lot of things big pharma hopes you don’t know. The list starts with processed foods….

I drove my 66 Belvedere pretty much for 10 years as a 'mild' rat rod but got a bit more wild for the last 8 (when did the name take ahold?) from 88 until 98 when I took it apart to ditch the /6 and make a race car out of the thing. Bracket raced it with the /6 and actually went 7 rounds for the win one night. The slowest car on the track beat the fastest that night. I hate not being able to put it back together :(

Mine became a mild rat rod (read above) because my life was demanding (X wife actually) and was spread out pretty thin. Had some fun with the car at least.

I've cut way back on the alky but probably should just flat out quit....and ate maybe too much dark chocolate late yesterday after eating dinner? Wasn't all that late going to bed but didn't sleep all that well and am feeling it today. The weather is changing yet again and lots of cedar pollen blowing in too....my allergies suck. The high tomorrow (no pun intended) is going to be 20 degrees cooler than today while today's high is 25 degrees warmer than yesterday. No overnight freezes yet but close...

@Cranky
Cedar pollen!!!!!! After I moved to Missouri in 1979 and the age of 31, in late winter about last of Feb. every year I would get sick, run a fever, cough, head run, nasty, whatever, lasted a good week. It had to be an allergy even if the then wife said I was nuts! She would get it a few days after me and swear I gave IT to her!!! Some many years later..... I well remember about 2006, I was getting a cup of coffee and made a comment to the guy next to me about my "crud", and he was a medical doc and told me I was allergic to cedar pollen!!!! I said, go to Hell!!! Really!?? pollen in the end of freezing winter!??

There ya go!!!!

Years ago when the youngest was around 10, she wanted a pet rat so we got one and he stayed in an aquarium with cedar shavings and it did him in.....
