Welcome
And ask any questions you need to.
Alot of members here have been around since these cars were built.
And thank you for your service.

Oh and a good looking duster.
More pics and info on drivetrain etc.

Hello again everyone, alright well i have a little more time now so let me try to explain a little more my situation, like i said i currently am deployed to afghanistan, an airborne infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division, and just recently bought this 1973 Duster 340 off my uncle for what id like to think was a good price, $2500, and i will be quick to admit i dont know that much about cars, i know what i want and the final outcome that i imagine though if that makes any sense. ive read a few threads on here and i just love the support that is given throughout this community. well here go some of the pics that i have so far

some of the things off the top of my head that i can think of that i want to do is raise the rear up a few inches, redo the whole exhaust with some mean sounding mufflers, add a six pack hood scoop, wider rear wheel and tire and top it off with a glossy jet black paintjob, but keeping the chrome thats on off course, this is just the stuff i have in mind for the exterior. pretty much how this is going to go down is that i let my dad know exactly what i want done and he'll get our family friend to do it. im about to get a full inspection done on it so i know any other things that need to get done, and i guess at this time i dont really know where to start, do i go from inside out or outside in? any comments from the pics? just anything would be greatly appreciated

Judging from the pics I'd go from the outside in but do the brakes first if needed. Thank you for your service!

I like the color, when the time comes to recover the front seats they are '78 F body.

thank you this is definetly the kind of advice i need, that way to know at least where to start off at. so any suggestions on how to go about raising the rear and where i can find a sixpack hood scoop?

First of all "Thank You" immensely for your service! And Welcome!
I have been on this site for over a year and a half, and this is the most thourough site I have ever found. Everyone on here has so much knowledge. I've been stumped on many of the things I 've been doing to my Duster and there is always someone on here who has an answer and a solution. And there are those on here who's generosity is unmatched when it comes to working with anyone on needed parts. You've got a cool ride! And as many have said to me on here "make it yours", unique to you. Good Luck! Be looking forward to hearing from you as time goes on.

19 Again..

im looking into switching out the tail light panel for one off a 1970 duster, anyone know if i would run into problems such as the trunk not lining up or anything along those lines?

Welcome to FABO! Good luck on your build. Should not be to bad of a swap. I put a 72 Demon tail panel on my 75 Duster.

As long as you mock every thing up there will not be any alignment issues. Put the trunk lid on and line it up to that.

I am sure you know this but your going to need tail lights and a wiring harness too.

Welcome
Thanks for your service, this cant be said enough!
The first thing you have to determine is are you going to put this right on the road or work on it for a while?
If your putting it on the road do the brakes first.
Depending on how long it sat, drain the fuel and purge the system, change ALL the fluids and then get it on the road.
If its going to be put on stands and worked on first, grab a beer read through posts and make a list on paper, then attack the list.
It looks like you have a great starter vehicle, and you have come to the right place

Wow1 340 a/c car in a cool color.

Be careful over there.

Yup, really liking the color of your car! As others stated, do your brakes first! It helps alot when you want to stop! You can raise the rear by having your springs re-arced, or check with ManciniRacing, or springs & things for upgraded leaf springs. Good luck with your build and keep us posted.

thanks everyone, i think im going to start off with the rear and work my way up, i want to get that suspension good and raise the back up some, give it that aggressive look. and yes it is an awesome color but im thinking a glossy jet black, but you guys are starting to make me rethink keeping it original lol any suggestions on how to tackle the issue at hand though, thoughts on what to get to raise that rear up?

ahh if only i could have a beer right now, that'd sure settle my thirst here in this desert . but i am taking your suggestions and making a list, but as far as the car goes it wont be getting drove just yet, first comes the work, hopefully it is all ready for me by the time i head back to the states. by the way, awesome job on the lighting of your car, looks great!

Welcome! Very proud to have you on FABO, like all the others said, Thank You.

I don't have tech advice but, since it's a 340 Duster, you might not want to do a lot of customization and drastic changes.
