(car enthusiast)That thing got a 340 in it? (me)Its got a 360 (car enthusiast) :sad1:

I'm the opposite. I tell anyone who asks that I still have the original 273 in my Valiant. Until I fire her up.

Good luck with that.

Brian

My Cuda is a 73 340 6 pack 4 speed. I have to quickly say, it's a factory 4 barrel car, with a Mopar performance 6 pack, or I get drilled.
My Duster is a 446 C.I. BB (RB 440 30 over). When I bought it, it had 451 on the 1/4 panels. It was really confusing explaining " Well the pervious guy before me had a low deck stroked to 451 in it. Now it's a RB 30 over". I just changed the stickers to 440, never get asked any thing now. Problem solved.....
I love my 340 4sd Cuda, but my wife's 360 71 Dart, is way faster

My Valiant has a 427 stroker. It even has 427 emblems on the fenders. I had it at the local Mopar show in June and two guys came up, eyeballed the engine for a few seconds, then looked at the emblems and I swore that I heard one of them say "Somebody turned it into a Ford."
:wack:

Are they sure it wasn't a Chevy?

Brian

in 1974 there were 3 different 360 engines , 2 barrel, 4 barrel and 4 barrel HP L code. the 1972 +3 340 rated at 240 net horse, 360 HP rated at 245 and 20 ft/lb more torque. the 360 HP had the 340 cam + double roller timing set + valve springs + windage tray + HP manifolds and a bigger 850 thermoquad. my 1974 dart sport with 8.25" rear with 3.21 gears ran 14.6 at 96 mph stock, about the same as a stock 340

340's rule.......

Everybody remembers their first ride in a 340....its a legendary engine.....not knocking the other SB engines, they are good too but back in the day a 340 was a king kong street engine that many people feared :glasses7:

Actually, I think the emblems are from a late model Corvette Z06. The guy who built the car built it to keep up with the Vette guys at track days. I think he put the emblems on to mess with them.

So much so they are going extinct because people and time beat on them. Guess I'll just have to settle for a ho hum Magnum... Oh well, gee wiligers, oh schucks.

I remember hearing stories from my dad when I was a kid about how all his friends had some baddass cars of all brands, but the fastest car he ever rode in was his brothers 69 Swinger 340 4-speed...and since then I fell in the love with the same engine...my first car has a 69 340 in it, a 74 Satellite Sebring Plus (I still own the same car) and caught hell from people asking why I didn't go big block.....I would never put a BB in that car, love it too much the way it is......

No doubt getting harder to find, and yes, many people beat them to a pulp and I do that to mine too.....that's what they were built for.....ho hum, enjoy your Magnum........

Hell...my brother's sister brother once told me if you say 340 a hundred time within one minute it will cure cancer....the clap...STDs....and everything else you got

Right 3.23's and 3.91's. EL5 The Duster in 74 with the HP 360 is as much a muscle car as a Demon 340- Better Carb-Better Suspension- Better Ignition- More Cubes-Better Brakes-Safer Car ect.

Just not as cool looking or desirable. And no legendary 340 engine. 14.56 et for the demon vs 15.20' for the 74 with a 8.25 rear end, I don't think so :)

66340 Love that Sebring-Very cool! (EL5) That was a Car Craft tested number in August 1974 14.6 in the quarter for the 360. Change the 3.21 gear to 3.91 and it will most likely go right past your 340. Look it up. You can see the Article on e-bay. The title is Duster 360 the last Supercar.

In the 60's, had a 56 chevy sedan delivery. It had a 283 punched 40 over. It was 289 C.I. I had it on the fender. Everybody was amazed.....Later (picture shown) I had a straight axel installed and put a 400 Pontiac in it. There were no BB chevy's then, this was my version of a BB. I made tons of money street racing it

How about telling them you have a 361 Big Block wedge :D

...now your issue may be because a 360 never came in a Dart....so the uniformed would never expect it.

360 never came in a Dart?

Yep My demon has a 360 in it and runs low 12's but when asked I say it's a 340 because that's what they remember from back in the day. The original 340 is under my work bench . A 74 duster 360 is not quicker than a 71 duster /demon 340. The 74 duster was tested with 3.55's

Stock vs stock the 360 WON'T touch a 340:D:D

When I had my 440 6pk Cuda I had a father son come up to the car. The dad says to the son." See son, this car isn't original cuz Hemis didn't come with 6 packs." I didn't embarrass the moron in front of his kid. I was tempted to but, I let it go.

I woulda been all over that!!

340/360HP same power. The 360 has more power than the 72/73 340. The numbers from Chrysler say that. In 71 they were rating horsepower different. So in 74 the HP 360 had 20ft lbs. more TQ than a 72/73 340. Now, lets calculate 71 340 vs the 74 360 Duster. If you try to determine the loss from going to the net rating, you will see they are nearly identical with the 340 making a few more HP and the 360 making a little more torque. Which would you rather have?

they know you have something when you tell them it's a bigblock. lol
you haven't drove anything until you drive a bigblock a-body.
make the bigblock breathe and watch out, your hands will be full. lol
make you forget about those smallblocks.

Come on we are all on the same team! I do like your enthusiasm! In 72-73 the 340 was hit hard to try and keep selling a popular engine! But, at around 8:1 compression. And timing at some where close to 0 it was wounded. Now, the 71! If you would have believed the numbers Chrysler threw out there to satisfy everyone! And If i would have caught your 74 360 out in my 71 340 Demon, it would have been a lesson learned on believing everything that is written. Now, modified versions! We all have learned to love the 360. The 340 was a performance engine period! It has it's place in history! And it is well deserved. If the 360 would have come out in 1968, we would be having a different conversation! But, it didn't. Hind sight is always 20/20. Then there is the 400 lol. Look what it can be now!

71 340 is what I'll take LOL. It was underrated, it was more like 310HP, NHRA refactored it the 70 6 pack 340 is even a bit higher, the torque thing is in favor of the 340, 74 360 is 320, 71 and earlier 340 is 340 foot pounds. Remember hi compression means higher cylinder psi meaning more torque. Also one has to see at what rpm the factory rated the HP at, Chrysler did this to the hemi and 340 to make them look lower than they actually were, not so much with the 383/440 engines. At any rate I'm happy with my 360 but can't wait to build one of the 340's I have!

They also put on a sad face when they look under my hood and see it was a SMALL BLOCK that just spank them:D:D:D

As you can see in my pic, I get overlooked a lot...Until I start it and the ground starts to rumble. Then I get "Got the 340 in that?" hell, just got that last night taking my wife out to dinner. I tell them "No, Just a 'Teen" Conversation usually moves on to "Wow" from there.
I have thought about telling them, "Nope, 323"
or "Nope, 5.3 liter"
Just to screw with them.
