We put together a stroked 340 that has dynoed at 535hp and 535 tq. The engine has ported eddy heads, rpm intake, 10 to 1 cr, FBO ignition curved at 18 initial and 34 total, turbo action 3000 stall, 3.23 gears.
We currently are using a mighty demon 650 that I have had no experience tuning. I am kicking around the idea of using a eddy 800 thunder because I have tuned several of the performers and am fairly decent at it now.
My question is will the eddy be more street friendly or will I lose some power doing this? This car will never see the strip and will be on a 4 hour or longer trip next summer.
I guess I am just looking for info from more experienced people as what to do.
 
If the engine was dyno'd with the Demon carb & made 535 hp why mess with it? What, you want more power?!? My god, man, you're sick! Sick I tell you! Haven't you ever heard of too much horsepower? Oh, wait, there's no such thing as too much horsepower. I get it now. Never mind.
 
I guess the reason I was looking at the eddy 800 thunder was that I understand how to tune the eddy better than the mighty demon.
Just looking for some answers on if this is a good idea to switch as I have only tuned the performer series.
Also wondering if the switch would lose or gain streetability and power.
 
A little hard to call on exactly how it'll react. Your making about 1.2 hp per cube.
The 800 cfm carb would be good for top end power. Some low end may become a little weaker due to the larger bore of the carb. How big is the tire in inchs? 3.23's is a little tight for a ratio out back. If it's tall, I'd stick with what it was dyno'd with. If it is small, like under 25 inch, a step up wouldn't hurt to bad.

I've driven 12+ hours straight with my 625 on my 360. Barley above stock specs, but constant driving in Ga. summer heat back to New york in one shot, non-stop except a midnight lunch without haveing any problem what so ever gets my vote for useage.
 
I am running 265 50 15 which are about 25.6" tall. I like the eddy because it seems to be easier to tune for the weekend mechanic. The demon is more of a race carb to me and I haven't quite grasp the tuning aspect of it.
 

The Demon will tune just like a Holley with swapping jets around. The thing I'm not to crazy about is constantly draining the bowl to take it off. The aftermarket has drain cups to minimize the mess of spilling.

Does anybody know if the "Adjust-a-jet" works with the Demon?
 
Isn't the eddy easier and less messy to change jets and rods than to change jets on the demon?

by far. the eddy you just remove the rods, then the airhorn and you can see the jets in the bottom of the bowls. holleys and demons have to be drained to do that. is there a reason to change carbs? is it running like crap? stumbles? or just so IF you have to tune it you know an eddy better.

Since the entire metering block gets replaced, I would have to say that it would, although you would lose the ability to change out the air bleeds like you can with the original Demon metering blocks.

Holley does offer float bowls that have two screws that are directly in line with the jets, giving you the ability to change them out without pulling the entire bowl off. The bowls would still have to be drained, but I just use the cap off of a paint spray can to catch the fuel 'cause I'm cheap. lol. The aftermarket ones that you mention nice though.

The Demon carb wouldn't look as nice, but I believe in function over form anyway. The only downside would be having to change out some of the fuel fittings to match up to the Holley bowl, and if a jet was to fall into the bowl, it would have to come out anyway. I don't think that would happen with the Holley jet tool though.

The demon has been giving some rich idle problems and yes, I do know how to tune the eddy better than a demon. I just think that the eddy would be easier to work on. I am also wondering if the eddy 800 will cause a lack of off idle response do to the large bore
 
i doubt that the eddy will have off idle response issues if it is set up right. demons are known to run rich at idle out of the box. i don't like them much. they tune about like a holley, but i like holleys alot more. eddys are great carbs and can run well, i put alot of them on customers cars. just remember on eddys right out of the box, pull the air horn and set the floats to 7/16" float level and 15/16-1" float drop. they are always out of whack new.
