carburetor????

so i have a 318 in my 66 valiant, just wondering what carburetor is good for like mid performance its my daily driver...

Do you have dual exhaust yet?
Thats my suggestion for the first thing to improve performance.

:)

If you want max MPG, I'd keep the stock Carter 2bbl off the 273.

At one time, with my 273, I was averaging 24mpg in the dart with the 4bbl afb (3853). Running 293:1 road gears.

If you keep your foot out of the 4 bbl it gets decent mileage, as the two small barrels run. If you keep you foot to the floor watch the gas guage go down!!!!! I get mid 20's mpg in 65 cuda, but go to the track and run all out and the gas goes all down!!!LOL

I sooo superly agree!

I had a 360 4bbl in a much heavier '79 Dodge Magnum with a 2.76 rear. The cars weight was north of 3600 easy, nevermind a full tank of gas and myself.

A full tank of gas would equal 400 miles plus. (Easy) It had a 20 gallon tank. Easy math. A Carter 625 was used.

Keep you foot out of a 4bbl?? Yeah, that will happen! You may just as well ask him to eat just one piece of popcorn..... :happy1:

Well, I admit, it's hard to do. Even when I'm on the Hwy. traveling, keeping pace with traffic can get your carb to be pushed a lil'far and tip open the secondaries some.

I had a 600 Edel. on my 400 w/3.55's. The car would actualy need to get into the secondarys some to maintain speed with traffic @ around 70 mph.
Same with the small primary T-Q that's on top now. The T-Q is better for what I mostly donow with the car. Just basicly around town with minimal Hwy. driving.

I had a 750 Carter on top for awhile. I really didn't get into the secondary side at all unless I was mashing the pedal down. But I hated the driveabilty of it until it warmed up really really good. Being the car never see's a whole lot of road time, I ditched it for a smaller carb. (Above)

Now I get in it and drop it in drive within seconds of starting it up and go without drivabilty issues when it is cold out. This morning, it was 17* outside. Started right up, waited 2 min.'s while I punched outta work, drop it in gear and away I go. It'll also do this stone cold at anytime. No warm up time is needed.
Woo Hooo T-Q!

I wonder where the kid went?

Kid, if your gonna run a square bore carb, I'd stay at 600
A spread bore can use a small primary T-Q or the Rochester Quadra Jet.
