Carter vs carter fuel pumps

-
The first one is a general fuel pump for big blocks. Example: 361-383, 2bbl. The second one is a fuel pump for a 383-440, 4bbl. It depends upon what size fuel line you are using. 5/16" fuel line is for 4bbl.

Just a guess on the second one, it probably keeps up better for the higher RPM range.

It is re-buildable as mentioned. I have that same pump for mine.

That what I was thinking. Guess I will run the higher priced one. Thanks

One has to wonder, tho, in the current state of chineseoated parts, if any of this is any longer relevant? Can you actually BUY rebuild kits for carter pumps?

By the way, "one hell of a long time ago" I sold auto parts in a previous life. I don't remember selling ANY pump rebuild kits, although I may have sold one or two. This all started in about 1974

I have both pumps on running motors, the expensive one will require a regulator.
The cheap one supply's my 340 with no issues.

Yes, last I knew.

That's the last piece of the puzzle for me. Just got a billet fuel rail today, already have the gauge and plumbing.

Glad I could help.
I actually have three of the expensive one, small block, big block and one on my blown sbc.
All required a regulator because they put out between 8 - 13 psi.

Crap. I guess I need to buy a regulator because I'm getting ready to run the more expensive one on my 408.

Yes, unless you want a motor filled with gas.

Any suggestions? My Edelbrock carb is supposed to run no more than 6 1/2 lbs pressure.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Fits: Small Block

The product specialists at Mancini Racing worked directly with the Federal-Mogul/Carter Fuel Systems brand team in bringing back these highly sought after mechanical fuel pumps that Mopar enthusiasts have been requesting for some time.

Both the Carter M6902 (small-block) and M6903 (big-block/Hemi) have the following features and benefits:

• 5.5 to 6.5 PSI

They are clockable too, thats nice. The round ones have 3 check valves in them as opposed to 2, 1 in and 2 out. IIRC. I had a large spring in a box marked Holley pump and it turned out to be the spring in one of these round style ones. half a rebuild kit......

You won't need a regulator with that pump. I ordered mine today.

Yes you will, they tell you it don't need one but I bet your fuel pressure will be over 10 psi without a regulator.

Says in the ad 5.5 to 6.5 psi. This pump is not the same one that carter sells through summit racing. It is a Mancini pump only.

Wow, those things are pricey.. I bought mine here for 25 bucks.

It says I don't need a regulator according to the numbers, but I'm installing one anyway.

Neither of those is set up for a return line. Do you plan on running a return?

Yeah, eventually. But for right now, I need one to get the car running. My buddy has the Holley one that he'll let me borrow til then.
