Caster camber gauge

-
I have 2 of the ones that are not digital and just bubble gauge. Maybe 25 years old but work just fine on a smooth surface like a rotor face. I have been using them for years.Pricey but what's not today.
I thing I payed around 10 bucks.

I have one from Speedway. Just the bubble.

You have to be able to put it on the center of the wheel while the wheel is on the car. If you have Cragers or something with a big center then the gauge has to have a big enough hole in it to accomodate. Mine works for my steelies, but not on say my aluminum rims for my 91 S15. I haven't tried it on the cragers but I have a feeling that an adapter is in my future.

You don't actually need a caster/ camber gauge. You measure camber, and not caster. Caster is computed, either manually with simple math, or within the tool by taking two camber readings with the wheels turned.

In other words if you go downtown and buy a decent tilt/ angle indicator, you can easily set that up to measure camber

The "usual" way to measure/ calculate caster is to turn the wheels in from straight 20*, take a reading, turn them out 20* and take a reading. Subtract the readings and multiply that X 1.5.

I used this Longacre bubble gauge. Works great.

Yeah, do that...or this:

I bought one of these last year and made a bracket to attach it to the spindle directly.

I just got the one you see in post #5 recently, from Speedway. Lucked out it fit right to the hub with the center caps removed on my Torque Thrusts.

And post 6 shows a good point. That is, depending on the rig, the wheels, other factors, not all caster/ camber gauges may fit. You may have to make or buy some sort of adapter.

I had bought a very old alignment machine cheap, early computerized. I was able to gut the wheel clamp on devices and remove the electronics from them. This left a clamp on device with a nice flat platform to mount what I need for caster / camber.
