This is a 70 duster with a green headliner. I don’t think it’s original, but it appears to be in good condition. I’m changing inside to black and plan to spray the headliner with duplicate colors vinyl and fabric die. I’m not planning on doing any scrubbing on the material due to its age, but was going to use something like a light brush or duster to go over it before I’ve sprayed And after I have masked everything off inside. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
On another note, I’m probably want to replace the front bench with black buckets and again I’m looking for something inexpensive. I have one time bought some from a later model Nissan and they were very heavy. The aftermarket I see on Amazon that are very inexpensive, but they don’t have any rails and it appears to be that be an issue to get it mounted. Has anyone got any suggestions for seats that they have used in the first generation here of the duster that fit well and are not too expensive thanks.

I think you have the right idea. The headliner is probably clean enough to spray. It's not like people will be spilling drinks on it or dropping french fries on it. I will only say two things; Mask, Mask, Mask and wear a good mask. Don't just wear a dust filtering mask, wear one that will filter out the bad fumes. You will be trapped inside the car with the fumes. I will guarantee that you will spend way more time prepping than doing the actual spraying. Send us some before and after pictures.

I have used a "vinyl paint adhesion promoter " when doing my seats. Probably made by SEM? I like their vinyl paint . It seems to work well. I wonder if that would be something that would work?? I have never done a headliner, maybe someone has and can chime in.

The adhesion promoter would probably be a good idea on vinyl. But the cloth headliner should not be a problem with adhesion so I only plan to lightly clean it and spray. I have vinyl seats, but I used base type paint ( no clear) but just base which is usually urethane and it is made to take some bending like when they cover rubber bumpers and things like that so it works well with seats. I’ve only died the rear seats. I felt like the front seats that got more use would probably need to have new vinyl material.

I'm all for painting interior parts it saves $$$ I picked up a nice blue door card set and sprayed it black for my Dart works fine I know the blue dart guys may be upset but the seller said no one was biting at the time.

I would vacuum it with a brush attachment to clean it up a bit.
That is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Be gentle.

Nothing at all wrong with the special plastic and cloth paint. SEM is the best I have ever used. On vinyl and plastic, I always use an adhesion promoter and a few light coats of SEM clear coat (gloss or satin) to protect the parts. One can get excellent results.
