ok new post ....last one asking if anyone ran pro comp MAGNUM steel heads got off wrong way..lol
looking at building this one a different way ..fun car to beat on light to light ..drive anywhere
kind of ride ...no worrying about getting door dings ext.

here's the picture...can get this weekend a ...$1500 duster roller all new front end parts including disc's ...power steering box ..8 1/4 rear ...body straight ...needs one lower 1/4 patch ...rear seat floor patch ...front seats ..headliner...has new carpet in the box ...was a running driving car he took the motor and trans out ...

complete 360 magnum with 904 on it ....ran when taken out ...i know forget that part ..$250

looking to put this package together for around 4 grand ...i can do all the body work paint ...install work ...put the motor together ext.

going el-cheapo for the drive anywhere fun piece but want BIG low end -mid power to melt tires or go light to light kind of fun ..lol

$100 a gallon single stage paint job but the body straight ...all my labor
$100 summit racing seats
$350 craigslist mags and tires
$150 set of 390 gears
$150 set of headers
$500 misc. rock auto order rad. belts .hoses.battery.alt.oil. filters ext.
$250 in trans ..shift kit rebuild kit
$135 cobra trans. 3500 stall converter

total $3475....appox. cost of car and trans done

now the motor build....using the stock magnum heads if not cracked

$450 have a local head guy will port and 5 angle ...install new springs ....i supply springs
$100 springs
use stock magnum valve train

$550-600 in heads ....fully ported o.e magnums appox. flow at 500 .... 252 / 177

$300 lunati voo-doo hyd. roller 60412.....535 / 550..... 231 / 239 @ 50

$350 machine shop ..clean hone check roller cam bearings in block

$388-rock auto master rebuild kit ...pistons, rings, bearings,gaskets,oil pump, roller chain,freeze plugs

$160 speedmaster air-gap intake

$50 skip white one wire dizzy

$35 summit ign. wires

$175 rebuilt 750 holley double pump

$1833 total ....360 with ported magnum heads ..roller cam 535/550..231/239 @ 50...new pistons..fresh rebuild ...

$3475 car and trans
$1833 motor

$5308 total ....all appox. of course but done with in reason for under 6 grand ....

complete painted duster with fresh power train ....that should roast the tires with 390 gears easy .....

what do you think that motor will pull on the dyno ....seen unported non roller stuff pull of 400 h.p. and torque numbers

.....thinking about also seeing what kind on comp. numbers it would be stock then maybe mill the heads and go for the thin head gasket deal or also deck the block to up her a bit ...
 
Shouldn't have any trouble getting easily over 400HP with those parts assembled properly.
 
Rebuilding a perfectly good motor?
Nothing like throwing money out the window. Can you throw some into mine!?!?!?!

My '00 Magnum;

B&M flex plate to mate to a Summit 2200 converter to the 904 = cheap
FABO 650 AVS = half price cheap
FABO tuning kit for carb = cheap!
FABO vacuum advance distributor = cheap as hell
RPM brand spankin new = pricey
Headers = new, pricey
2 lengths of straight pipe = cheaper than a birds cheap
Summit racing Exhaust @ 2-1/2, very well priced with very good mufflers, under $250 IIRC

Next up, cam. Will use heads as is, dead stock. So the cam is limited in lift but not duration except for the converter limitation of its stall speed rating. 3.55 gears on 245/60/15's

IF! I was to turn up the flame, I would use ported Edelbrock heads and a cam to suite. Then of course the converter and gears would have to change, but that would be OK as it is all part of the parcel.
 
IF I were you, and I wanted to go as fast as possible on the cheap.....

Use a 4bbl. on top
Select cam with low lift in the duration (read; operating rpm range!)
Install headers with 2 lengths of straight pipe cut down to fit the cheap mufflers ending at the rear axle.
Install a high stall converter with the intended gear ratio and fat tires.

do not know anything about the motor other than it turns over and HE said it ran ...miles etc. ...so saying its a good motor i believe is a crap shoot that no one whats ...so if your going to tear threw it i was looking at cost per end results i was looking for ....
 
If the motor runs and has good oil pressure and compression then leave it be, have Oregon cam or any other cam grinder regrind the stock cam, add a magnum compatible 4bbl intake and carb, add headers, converter, gears and have fun.

What is the intended use of the car? i.e. 100% drag race, 50/50 street strip, daily commuter, running down daughters boy friends, unicorn ambulance, etc....
 

I'd like to see the specs for a Unicorn Ambulance package please... :D
