Ok I know for a fact that some of you are also GM guys so don't get all holier than tho on me.
I have a 84 G20 van with a 305 and auto od tranny for a parts chaser and I was wondering since mopar has the mini starter that came stock on newer stuff is there anything like that for chevy? Something that I can goto a pull a part yard and grab or get off the parts counter that is smaller and has more torque?

I just called my son and ask him "circle track racer" he said yes!!
It is a smaller and gear reduction starter that you should be able to get at most parts store. or if you have a dirt track friend he can tell you where you can find one.

Hope this helps 360scamp!! I don't get to help very much here and you have been very helpful to me and my slant 6.:read2:

:thumblef: Thanks Mikey! I will check with the parts store when I get the plugs and wires for it this weekend.

Well it is a parts chaser so I won't rag on you for that. lol

Well I can say I have been a mopar man as long as I can remember.:-k
But!! :-D You could not get me to try and make a chevy truck do any of the work I have seen and put other truck's though,
But that's just from my experience:-D

Lots of farmers around me all my life.
The wife drove the chevy truck.:glasses8:

I got all bases covered. The Duster is parked next to the Nova which is next to the Mustang which is next to the Jeep. The Jeep is an AMC version which contains a mixture of parts from everybody. No foreign brands allowed in my garage. You can keep your Toyautos and Hondos. Just good old American Muscle for me.

Ive driven everything. When I lived in Jacksonville, NC I had a 74 shorty chev truck, Ive owned Buicks, mopars, fords (nothing newer than 56) GMC (genuine mechanical crap!) a 74 Internatonal pickup with a 327 chevy in it, Fireturds, 73 camaro. I love Mopars but Im not scared of working on or driving a chevy because lets face it, they are easy to work on and everyone has parts instock for them!

Well I will confess,:glasses8: My wife is know driving a Honda Passport.8)

And while the house was being built I enjoyed this Del sol and had
a blast in it saving money on gas. :-D

Found this one on the web.. available in different sizes - from 4'-8" to 6'-2". Of course the torque rating is higher for the larger models. I hear the smaller versions have the same wa-wa-wa sound tho.

LOL, Thanks but thats not quite what I was looking for. I can see it now everytime I want to start the van Im out there trying to hand crank a 30 over 305 lol no thanks!

The starter now barely makes the ur ur ur sound now.

The 98 chev truck that I owned came with a mini. Just about anything in the late 90's with a vortec either V6 or V8 should have one.

The starter for a Vortec engine is smaller, but I'm not sure whether the Vortec is using a 153 or 168-tooth flexplate. I'd think they'd use the latter for mechanical advantage, but they may have opted for cranking speed instead. :?

Using a 2000 Z-28 to cross-check parts, it listed the flexplate as having 168 teeth. The flexplate in your van should be the same, so unless they've done something goofy with the starter's bolt spacing and/or locations it should go right in.

Do you know how many teeth are on the flywheel on a 84 G20 with a 305 and a 700R4, I think thats the one thats in there I know it is the 4 speed auto. I haven't looked at the pan so I don't know for sure, I do know that the option sticker under the hood says 4 speed auto transmission. The van came with the tow package option.

I found an aftermarket mini starter on ebay for 65 bucks after shipping but I would like to get something by this Saturday thats why I was wondering if there is a stock one that would work like Mopar has.

You beat me to the post, I posted the last one then saw your comment lol. Thanks I will give it a try! What years are the interchange for starters on a 2000 Z28? I have a buddy that is into camaros and firebirds of that era.

The numbers I'm seeing for one part listing are 1998-2001. Another mini-starter part listing shows 1995-1997 and also uses the 168-tooth flexplate. I wouldn't be surprised if they're functionally the same part.
