Im sure some of yall have been to the Chiropractor. I've personally never been. What are some of the benefits that yall have experienced? I'm 30 and always feel old and stiff. Thinking about trying one out.

Go try it. It doesn't hurt, and you will feel better afterwards.

I was having back problems (disc). I told my doctor that I had been to see a chiro. He told me I was nuts and to stop going. They make adjustments and manipulate your back so in some cases they can make matters worse. Consult your family doctor first, get Xrays etc first so you know exactly what is going on.

Why do you want to visit one?
Don't waiste your time .... they are nothing but knuckle crackers .... What they do you can do yourself... with exercise and stretching and reg massages .... if you need to go to the chiro for a reason ... you have an issue that a real doctor should look at ...
I started seeing chiro due to tight neck and shoulders .... typical answer ... ... keep coming back and we will adj it out ????? .... takes ex-rays...... NO help...
So i went to a regular doctor for minimum 3-4 months trying to get answers ... typical doctor ... try this , try that ...... eventually concern got escalated due to numbing fingers and side of tongue and an emergency room visit .....
Long story short .... brain tumor ... next day surgery ... NON-cancerous tumor on skin above brain ... Thanks to the Lord .. i recovered with no other issues ... all GOOD now .
YOU know your body .... NOBODY elsed does .... that is why i caught it early .... NEUROSURGEONS ... by the dozens visited me day after surgery ... ALL with same question " HOW DID YOU KNOW ?????"

Not big on doctors myself after all they're just practicing ya know. I have an old chiro that i always go to but he's about retired. He's set up shop at his home and when i'm out of place i go to him. The doctors only want to give ya pills. I'm not on any pills at age 60 and never have been. Eat right and work your but off and you'll be fine. Oh i forgot the shot of Kesslers.

Unless you have an injury, I'd consider perhaps a better mattress first.

My Chiropractor has saved my livelihood. I used to think that they were knuckle crackers too. For about the past 10 years I had issues with my neck and middle back. It would really slow me down for a couple of weeks at a time. I honestly learned to live with the pain until about 5 years ago I injured my pelvis while packing out about 200 lbs of elk meat down the mountain. I could hardly walk for a few days and I had pins and needles down my left leg.

My wife made me go see a chiropractor finally. The first one wanted to sign me up for at least 10 visits before he would touch me, the second one couldn't adjust my pelvis, the third one finally knew what he was doing. He does all of the Chiropractic for the University Athletics Department here. It took about 3 months of regular visits, but he fixed years of pain and a little nerve damage in my left leg. I shake that mans hand every time that I see him. I still go in about once every 3 months for minor stuff, because I still think that I can lift as much as I used to.

The keys with Chiropractic is finding a good one and listening to him and being patient. Some of these guys that say that it doesn't work either don't have a good one or have never actually been to see one. My 02

Find a good beginners Yoga class nearby. Stick with it and I guarantee, within 6 months your aches and pains will be gone.

Chiropractors have a Love Hate profession !! Some people Love them, some people hate them !! I can tell you from my experience that I love them ! I lost a leg in a motorcycle wreck when I was 18 !Down the road a number of years I started having back pains. It seems that my gate (the way I walked)was hindered somewhat by the prosthetic device ! Started seeing my Chiropractor, and I've got to say he'd adjust me this way, that way, even cracking my neck (scared me,but felt good after) but he kept me going with far less pain than I had when I started !! So,30 years later,of doing Custodian, maintenance, and grounds keeping,I was able to retire !!! Needless to say,THEY WORKED FOR ME !!!

I always feel stiff in the lower back area. Then every so often on my left side of my back kinda right above my hip ill get a sharp almost paralizing pain only last for a few seconds but damn does it hurt. ive always felt like I had lower back fatigue thought maybe a trip to the chiropractor might help.

X2 on the doctors push medicine before prevention

A good Chiro doc can do miracles, not always and there is a slight increase risk of stroke having you spine-neck twisted

I go to a Chiro but only when needed and not as often as he says to, when the pain-stiffest is gone I am too

I think if it's pain or strain and not a defined injury. I would go see a massage therapist first. I used to do combo's a deep tissue massage followed by chiro about an hour later. Now I just get massage monthly.
Someone above said something about getting a good bed I fully agree. If you have a spring type turn the mattress and see how you feel after a couple days.

Pain is a nebulous thing and can be caused by any number of reasons. The first thing you need to do is diagnose the cause of the pain. Much common back pain is simply caused by weak/spasming muscles due to a variety of reasons, i.e. pulled muscle, poor mattress, etc. This can be reduced or eliminated by an exercise program, posture training, supportive mattress, etc.

Other causes of back pain are due to structural problems, such as collapsing discs pressing on nerve fibers, spinal spurs irritating nerves, damaged vertebrae, arthritis, etc. The source of the pain must be diagnosed.

A chiropractor goes through two years of training. A medical doctor has a minimum of four years and most continue with a specialty and/or sub-specialty and must have annual continuing medical education in their field. Neurosurgeons typically do not enter practice until they are in their 30s - that is a short, but intense career!

A chiropractor will usually be unable to diagnose a true medical problem, but their manipulations might alleviate a local spasming muscle pain. They will take poor-quality, full-spine x-rays and tell you that your spine is "out of alignment." Enerybody has a spine "out of alignment." Again, you really want to have the problem diagnosed because some maladies are progressive in nature, such as collapsing discs and spur growth.

If the problem is simply muscle strain/spasms, a physical therapist or good massage therapist could do the same treatment for much less money. Many chiropractors now employ PTs and/or MTs to do the periodic manipulations and will charge you for that plus his 2 minute "evaluation."

A Chiropractor in NY gave me back my freedom of movement in my neck.....I suffered from misaligned vertebrae for years.....Thank God I finally went....my life was changed.....and I didn't have to go back either........

......until 5 years ago when I lifted my wife's concrete flower urn and put it on my truck when we moved......I damaged my sacral area.....it got progressively worse for weeks until I couldn't get out of bed without screaming from the pain....... A Chiro here in Florida took me in (my wife and son had to almost carry me in the door) and did his thing by bending me in specific positions to relieve the pressure....no way I could have done it myself.....I paid 40 bucks, went home feeling sore but walking, and 3 days later when the inflammation was gone, I was back to work with a vengeance.

You might have had a bad experience, but ALL doctors (of any kind) can give you a bad one.......Good Chiro's work physical miracles that medical doctors just can't accept.....they think you have to have surgery or drugs to solve the problems.....that's plain BS........

Find one with a good report, and get there. By the way, I haven't been back to one in 5 years now.......I use a "Spineworx" alignment tool for my back (you just lay on it and relax....it does an alignment like a Chiro) and a "Back-2-Life" machine for my lower back. I use 'em when I need it, and they work wonders at keepin' me up and runnin'.......and saves on the bills.

I go once a month. I have a couple discs in my lower back that have deteriorated due to a injury 25 years ago. As long as regular visits keep me moving and relatively pain free I will keep going. My medical Dr. is not a believer in back surgery and recommended that I continue going if I am getting relief. Also, I was having chest pains on my left side and the Dr. sent me to the hospital for tests etc. After running my *** off on the treadmill, the specialist said there was nothing wrong. That afternoon I had a Chiropractic appointment and told her what I went through that morning. She examined me and found a rib out of place, adjusted it back and the pain was gone. If you have a pulled muscle or are having muscle spasms get a massage then a adjustment. They can't cure the common cold but they can do miracles sometimes. tmm

I was rear ended by a 18 y/o drunk driver doing over 90 MPH. I found a good Chiropracter and he helped to get all the pain to go away. They are worth the effort to visit. by the time I started seeing him, I was in pain whether I was standing, sitting, or laying down. He got everything back in alignment and the pain went away. Still need an adjustment once in a while, but he helped alot.

I'm 63 and couldn't stand the pain if it were not for my Chiro. I'm very lucky to have found a good one. He only fixes me when I'm hurting and never keeps dragging me back for repeat visits. I've gone to him on and off since he first fixed me in 1974. I even send the guys here at work to him when their hurting. He's younger than me so I'll probably have him for the rest of my life and for me that's very comforting. Oh yes and a few shots of Jack every now and then. Small Block's got it figured out. Dan

If you're truly locked up, neck is a good example where your range of motion is clearly reduced and have associated pain a chiro will fix you. BUT if that isn't your issue and they start cracking you in places that probably are somewhat stuck but not bothering you. Next thing you know it will be bothering you and you'll be going back over and over again. The only reason I go now is for those places that didn't bother me but got cracked anyway.

I used to go to the chiro about once a week for a slipped disc at L5 in my lower back. About 15 years ago I bought an inversion table and haven't been back to the chiro since then. Use it every couple of days whenever I feel it getting tight. Takes about 20 minutes and I am good to go.

All i can say... is do research.... There are back crackers out there that call themselves chiropracters. Dont go to a back cracker. If the chiropracter doesnt do a full evaluation, including Xrays, and nerve stress testing then dont go to them. That being said... A real Chiropracter goes after the source of the nerve sublexations. Or.. basically whats causing pain. The chiro needs to talk to you about nerves and the nervous system. Thats the Chiro you want. The next big thing you need to know is this. Doctors hate Chiropracters... and Chiropracters hate doctors. If you are a person that loves mediacation and dont want the problem with your body alignment fixed, but only masked.... go to your Doctor. Doctors push meds... they get kick back from pharmacies.... see health care and the hell its in. You get frequent headaches ??? take drugs.... mask that real problem. Or... go get evaluated and have the source of the problem fixed. Look at it like this... lets talk car talk.... You wear your steering tires out due to bad alignment. If you put new tires on.....you masked the obvious problem of worn out tires. The problem is... the misalignment is still there. You will wear those tires out again. Now if put new tires on and have the problem alignment fixed... your golden. Until you hit a bad bump again which can cause a misalignment. Its really that simple. Doctors dont want you to know that. It takes money out of there pockets. Ok.... but what about... the Chiro wants me to keep coming back and charging me more. Well duh...Again.. if you have a legit chiro he will ask you to come back. Your muscles train themselves... they will compensate. If you have had you back out for months your muscles are working in that manner. When you get adjusted they have to relearn. So it will take several adjustments to keep training the muscles. Thats the short of it.
3 years ago I could barely walk. I have been in 3 car wrecks and a demo derby. I was a mess. After many trips to the chiro I am 100% better and still go in for "tune ups" my overall spine health improved dramatically. Its all connected... the pain comes from pinches nerves from misalignments. My 7 and 10 year old girls were recently in a car that got rear ended. They seemed fine. I took them into the Chiro for a check up. Both had severe muscle strain and nerve strain in certain areas. They may not have known this until it acted up in there teens as they grow...With several treatments their backs now are in perfect alignment.

If you havent figured I am PRO-Chiro. Just make sure you get the right one. There are hundreds of back crackers out there.... go with the ones that provide the therapy. Not just the snap, crack, pop specials.

I have also preached this to many people that asked how I got better. They were all Chirop nay-sayers as well. They all are feeling better then ever with lots less money spent at a Doctors office masking pain.

For those of you that think 6+ years a doctor is schooled makes a difference... your dead wrong. They are taught traditional medicine. My gf diagnoses patients with major illnesses and is the one that tells the Doctors what is wrong with the patients. She is the one that makes the call. The Doctor is merely the one that delivers that news. I can go on and on and on about Doctors... yes... they are needed....no doubt.... but I dont put them on any pedestal just because they have lots of schooling. Its people below them that are the true people that do the work.

ok.... enough from me.

Chiro's go through the same 4 years as doctors as well as the 2 extra years. So says our Chiropractor. My dad hurt his back when he was 16 lifting concrete bags. Didn't think much of it until he was in his mid 30s. He went to a chiropractor who said that basically he'd twisted his spine and it had continued that way since. After about 2 years of constant adjustment, he was back to normal, now he just goes back every couple months for one. Some relative on my mom's side of the family also thought that they were quacks until he went recently, now he loves them. You just have to get one that knows what they are doing.

Inversion tables are awesome for lower back pain. I'm 6'8" and have had trouble for the last 20 years or so with a buldging disc, I bought a tetter hangups about 3 years ago and have had no pain at all ever since. I only use it maybe 2 times a week and it has been a life saver.
