Classmates dying?

A old high school friend of mine died from a ****** overdose on Friday. He will be the 6th person to die that I went to high school with 4 years ago. Is it normal to start loosing classmates so early or is there some sort of a curse on my high school?

One was a brain tumor, one was hit by a drunk driver, another was hit by someone texting. Then there was the other over dose, and my friend who died in the motorcycle wreck. The last two could have been avoided but nonetheless it struck me as a lot of young people dying.
 
I've had two I can remember off the top of my head die from my class. The first, was one night at a party about a week after graduation. I gave a girl a ride there that wanted to go. I wasn't staying as I was not the party type. Although I did stay long enough to get passed a tray with speed and a straw on it. The guy who passed it to me was actually a good friend I had grown up with from the second grade on. I knew he had been into drugs pretty good and I looked at him and said "Kevin, this stuff is gonna kill you one day" and gave him the tray back. Everybody around heard me and started laughing at me and I left. I got a call the next morning telling me that Kevin had died in a car crash early that morning.

Also, another friend fell asleep at the wheel of his truck on the way home from work a few years after that. I wouldn't say it's a curse, it does happen.
 
My girlfriend is having this problem. Four classmates have died in the pass 6 months and all around 35 years old. All unexpected. No illness or drugs. It's starting to freak her out.
 
I was real close friends with both of the boys who died from the overdoses. I was never a fan of drugs but usually I would try and help my friends steer clear of them. I was friends with both of them until they moved past weed and shrooms. I told them both I would do anything to help them get away from ****** but began to distance myself. The last time I spoke with them was probably 4 years ago before I left for college.

It's getting bad in the part of town I grew up in and unfortunately as we can all tell there doesn't seem to be a solution that everyone can agree on. But I'm not turning this into a debate on the drug problem.

It is really freaking me out. I lost a friend in a motorcycle wreck and now when I am flying down the drag strip or I see one of my friends on a bike I always think about the risks.
 
Lost 2 within a couple of weeks of graduation (both killed by drunk drivers) - and my chem lab partner got killed by either a drunk or a dozing driver the summer before senior year, too. It's part of life...
 
At "just turned 66" I'm finding all sorts of people I've outlived, some accidents, some illness, some preventable, and some not

I don't mean to lecture, but if you guys smoke, you need to quit

in the last 5 years i ve had about 7 classmates kill them selves over lifes trails and error i am 50 years old most of thems hads kids and wifes , just too much to deal with life is rough sometimes but all you got to do is talk to the man above he will help ................
 
I just had a friend who commuted suicide about a month ago, never found his happiness! Then just 2 days ago, his uncle who was a good friend of mine was killed while riding his motorcycle! Very sad for the loss of my friends, but even sadder for the family, who haven't been able to grieve Kenny's death and now must somehow handle another loss!! My prayers are with all of us who have lost loved ones, friends, classmates or any other deaths! May God bless everyone with peace and comfort in our hearts to someday understand His plan for us all!! Geof
 
Doogie sounds like you are young as you mentioned graduating recently from high school. For me, the younger the deaths, the more tragic. Im in my 40's and know of a few people that I went to school with who have died. I wouldnt say your school is cursed, but it is weird IMO. BUT no-one else may die for another 40 years. So things "even" themselves out. My condolences to everyone.
 
my grand daughter lives in a small town in pa. her high school class only had 200 in it ,from one week before graduation until one week after they lost 6 classmates from suicide ,car accidents and alcohol abuse ,she has taken it very hard as she was very close with them all. As all of us older ones know we all have had a close call or 3 in my case, And yes it is more difficult to deal with the death of someone on the edge of adult hood and someone close to your own age, we all feel life is to short ever at age 90 some people can still be looking forward to tomorrow.
 
I was good friends with two of them. Many of you might remember the situation I was in back in April with loosing my friend in the motorcycle wreck. At 23 I have become very familiar with death and I am starting to see the posotive side in it by knowing how to deal with it and what things to avoid. It has allowed me to relate to people better and know what not to say when someone looses a friend.

I have told many people that dealing with my friends Tyler's motorcycle accident has changed the way I view the world in a very good way. Life is to short to hold grudges, be lazy or be scared...it's a same that death is what makes us realize that.
 
Death is part of the cycle of life.At my age (65) when I 1st got out of school it was Viet Nam and drunk driving accidents. Now it's usually because of life choices made early on ( lung cancer, heart Disease....etc.).

Here in Clermont County ****** has become rampant. I have, unfortunately, learned more about it than I ever wanted to know. There roughly 6 overdose's daily in Clermont county alone. Not necessarily deaths, but OD's. The # spikes when a new shipment of ****** comes in to the area. Facet pawn is the area's #1 fence for ****** users when they steal something. The police know it, but Facet doesn't play fair. They just haven't been caught yet. The reason the Motel 6 at 275 and 125 is no more is because it became a layup for ****** use and dealers. Motel 6 pulled the franchise. The owners still allow the drug use. The Red Roof Inn not far from there is pretty bad too.
The local news quit reporting ****** related deaths a long time ago, it's just not news any more. My daughter is in prison now because of the stuff. I hope to god she gets help in there. Click the link, that's her. She looks good in the pic, she actually had been clean for about 3 months when they finally sent to prison from Clermont County Jail. You should have seen her when I took her to the jail. I haven't seen her since she's been in prison, but I hope it's better. If she doesn't get help, I'm going to bury her. It's just that simple. That stuff is poison, it destroys the person it gets it hands on.
I'm sorry for the loss of your friends, just all I ask is don't go down that drug path man. It's one way and the end isn't pretty. I've yet to see any thing positive come from any one using ******.
 
Wow. Those are truly disturbing numbers. Out here the big thing seems to be meth / crack.

I have more then a couple friends on the narcotics squad for the county so I hear about it all day. Growing up in Amelia is the reason I have such a hatred for illegal drugs. I never have touched anything illegal and don't intend to. I actually got my degree in criminal justice because the way the high school was when I graduated.

I also have two cousins in and out of jail because of ******. Every time they get out they turn to their grandpa to get money and swear they are getting clean. They use that money to buy more ****** and end up back in jail and repeat this a couple times a year. Having relationships with addicts and taking classes on drug use in colleges really helped me see that jail does nothing for the majority of addicts. I hope that's not the case for your daughter but until this country starts taking a different perspective on the drug problem then progress will not be made. I am sure you understand the stress and problems it causes it the family not just the user. Best of wishes to your family and hopefully she will not turn out like my friends.

I'm in good area of Chicago, and the high schools are having ****** problems, even with upper middle class kids. A few kids OD'ed at my son's high school. they say that with today's ****** and meth, one time and you're hooked.... :wack:

You're about on par.

You loose a few class mates due to unavoidable accidents/health issues.

Then a few end up killing themselves due to stupidity (no common sense, and it catches up to them - ie texting while driving, drinking and driving, drug OD, etc.) They serve as examples to the others, and hopefully the others learn from their stupid example what not to do. The Darwin theroy...

I had a few kids die while I was in high school. Then a few die shortly after. It's part of life and reality.
 
It goes downhill quick once the words ****** or meth come up in a community. This may be hard to believe and might get this thread moved to n&p but I'll share my explanation. A small rise in ****** use occurs in a small town. The police and emt see it as a platform to launch a campaign to get more money. The news picks up the story of a ride in ****** use and parents begin to panic. The families that don't want their kids around that decide to pull their kids out of that school district and enroll them in a private school. This takes away a good amount of finding for the school system. Suddenly you have a school district full of kids that have had a tough life and the ones whose parents don't bother with their kids habits. Soon property value takes a dive and the community begins deteriorating. Rough people begin moving into the area and eventually the neighborhood is gone.

Gunbunny can see this happening in the west clermont school district. My children will not be hidden in private schools from the truth. Parents can not keep taking their kids and money and running from the truth, they need to spend the money and raise good kids to improve their community instead of abandoning it.

Could this have been avoided if the police didn't make a huge fuss out of a slight rise in ****** use? What would have happened if they attacked the problem without making it public and becoming moral crusaders.

It may sound far fetched but if you study the actual numbers it's more then likely the process.
 
Something that disturbs me in some ways as someone's face or name will pop into my head that I "used to know" and have not had contact with.

You cannot always find them on the www ALIVE but you can "always" find their obituary

Quite a few folks I knew who are gone were younger than I
