What is the best way to clean and prepare the valve cover for painting.

I sandblasted mine. Primered than 3 coats of wrinkle black. Finished off baking in bbq. Turned out perfect

I cooked mine in the oven after spraying wrinkle paint. The wife wasn't too happy when she came home and saw them! I think I used thinner and a wire brush to to get all the old paint off.

For me it was tedious work making sure not to mess up the fins lol but well worth it.
Im thinking I used Plastikote?

When I did mine I took the aluminum off and sand blasted them. Sprayed with an oil based primer then wrinkle black and dry in the sun. Then glued the fins back on with gray permatex. That was 9 years ago and they still look great.

I too removed the fins and had the sheet metal bead blasted.
