Do any of you computer wiz's out there know where i can get Rambus type memory for somewhat of a decent price?? I just bought a hp notebook for myself but i wanted to beef up my dads gateway. I took it to frys and the nerds over there told me that they dont make rambus memory anymore and i almost **** a brick when they told me how much it cost. i heard you could get it online for cheaper but i havent been able to find any....

its got 256 in it right now, i was hoping to get at least a stick of 512 in it. i dont understand why gateway would use such crappy memory. If you had some laying around that would be great!! 100 bucks for a stick of 256 is about what the guy wanted to sell it to me for in his shop.

it has to be installed in pairs, so you will need 2 matching sticks, it was not crappy memory just did not catch. what chips do you have exactly. i ask because i have found this memory to be very sensitive and with mix and match. (we have 5 cpu's running it) also i got my 512mb off e-bay for 70.00 buy in now deal, check there

The memory RAMBUS was Intel trade marl specific. Many Dells and gateways used it. Is is installed in matched pairs. You emtpy slots have 2 dummy chips called RIMS. This memory runs at 800mhz was very costly to make, did not catch on beacuse Intel decided to go in another direction etc..

Anyway, the RIMS they are used to turn the parity bit on.

I have a pair of 64 megsx2 would give you another 128 megs. You also need to make sure in WIN2K or WINXP you register the memory.

Yes it is pricey stuff! It can be about $120-$150 for a matched 128 pair yeilds 256 megs.

I can sell you these 2 64's for $45 + shipping if you like?

Hope that clears it up.
