I've been had, fat fingered a link & now my computer will redirect me to a different coupon type site.(not always)

I have ran malware bytes full scan-- it found stuff & deleted,
security essentials says my computer is clean---(full scan)3x

went to trend micro down loaded rubot-- it found something & now I cannot restart the rubot program tried re downloading from TRendmicro site
also have hijack this program-- but do not know how to use.

I'm on windows xp
any suggestions/help!!

Thanks Lawrence

Use Linux. It's free. No viruses, no trojans, no bugs

start in safe mode (tap f8 while booting) and run your maleware. That will usually solve most problems. Lot's of forums for hijack this to help you out. I do mine if I need to, but I would hate to mess yours up! lol

I have ran the malware bytes in save mode, I still have 1 kernel code patching found, i tried to delete it 5 times with the siftware that found it to no avail, both with interenet connected & not connected. Lawrence

Did you try a restore to earlier point? Reload OS? Or go online and look for the problem? That might mean going into the registry to actually remove the thing. Just some options.

system restore will not restore to an earlier point-- tried numerous times
just tried spybot & it caused a blue screen & need to restart--
I'm stopping for now at least I can use the computer,
Lawrence

You may have to simply re-install the OS. Delete all partitions and format the drive. Course all data will be lost. You may be able to copy and back up the important data like your documents to dvd or external drive, problem is you may be backing up the virus as well but I dont think that would be an issue.

formatting the drive will not erase the drive, in order to do that I use the free version of "kill disk" I keep a copy on a floppy, boot from floppy, run program, it physically over writes the entire hard drive, then reinstall your operating system and other software, this should insure a clean install

if you just reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows will look for and reuse sections of data on the drive that may contain malicious script allowing the problem to remain (I have had it happen)

I have never had a virus come back after an OS re-install after deleting all partitions.
I agree though, killdisk would be guaranteed to wipe the drive. I think.

I have only had it happen once, but it was a pain in the ***, so now I run kill disk before every install with a used hard drive just to be sure

cc cleaner has a drive wiper-- is that the same as kill disc? it has various levels of wiping-- how many times to clean the disk.
I will have to find my os disk & start over again., thanks Lawrence

it sounds like a similar program
all it does is write 01010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101010

If you are using internet explorer you could try resetting that to factory default or something like that. I had to do it after a virus was removed because it got into explorer. I wasn't able to run any updates until i reset it. Just a thought, good luck.
(BTW... not many viruses for Apple or Linux because nobody used them so who would waste their time, when they become more popular they'll be just as bad)

this laptop had win7 and ubuntu 10.10 ..dual boot...

Me too. I hardly ever fire up the Windows OS. I can search and browze and well,......."screw around" and I HAVE YET to get a problem brought in through Linux (Ubuntu.) Better yet, I can "see" the Winhozed partition from Linux, so if I need to download something that "belongs" to Whinehore, I can just lay in right into the partion, until I boot up next.

where do you get these other systems? are they ez to navigate? I'm waiting on info on reading the hijack this list---- most likely will have to save pictures & such, then reload the system.
anyone used comb fix? Lawrence
