What are the bads of the cone type sure grip? Are they good enough for a basic cruiser. Will I regret putting it in with new gears and bearings. Thanks for any help.8)

Some people think they are absolute junk.

I think they are OK. They are rebuildable as long as you have access to machining equipment. .030 here, .030 there, some shims and done.

Clutch types are preferred by most because they are easier to rebuild.

I've run both and for your average everyday mild to medium cruiser I wouldn't get worried about the cone type. Just make sure you add that little bottle of slippery stuff (friction modifier) with whatever oil you put in the rearend.

I have one in my dart now and it's condition is unknown. I beat on it regularly and it doesn't make any noise. I think like the others, they are fine for general HP street use.

I have a clutch type that I am going to rebuild and use 3.91 gears once I get my stroker built for some serious flogging!!

Take it apart and make sure the cones are not bottomed out in the housing. If they aren't then its still usable.
