Is a copper gasket better to use than say the felpro or ??. The bore size seems a better match. If using one, anything else to do or just use it like a normal one?

Pardon Our Interruption...

Why do you think you need any gasket other that a standard replacement gasket. For normal or moderate "hop up" I like the OEM "shim" gasket, but these are getting hard to find. A fel pro is an OK gasket but any aftermarket replacement gasket will hurt you compression ratio, as the are thicker the the oem gasket. In my opinion a copper gasket has no place on a stock to mild build. They can be a pain to seal water and oil, and idealy use "O-Rings" around the bores.

Copper head gaskets REQUIRE the heads or the block to be machined for o-rings. They are used in very high compression or forced induction engines.

No copper. Completely unnecessary.
I don't use copper gaskets any longer. Not worth the trouble on my engines. I have nitrous and turbo engines and just use the stock OEM steel shim gasket. I have one engine that is setup for the copper gasket with "O" rings. When I first got in turbo's (back in the late '70's) I was blowing head gaskets. So I switched to the copper and "O" rings. Cured my problem of blowing gaskets, and started breaking rings, and pistons. Problem was detonation, not boost pressure. The stock gaskets were acting like a fuse, and blowing before the other parts were damaged. After using the copper gaskets, that was no longer the weak part, the pistons were.

Just curious as I'd seen them listed. Good info, I couldn't find much from a quick search. Thanks!
