I just had my 904 rebuilt and was advised to get a new TC. So how do I know which one to buy a lock up or non lockup?
Don't know the year of the tranny

The guy that did the rebuild should know.
Do you know what year the transmission is?
Lock ups' started in 1978.
The converter will also depend on your engine. What cubic inch is it?
If you count the splines on the input shaft that will also tell you. 27 spline non-lockup,
26 spline lockup.

If splines on input shaft go right to the end of the shaft it is a non lockup.....If splines do not go to the end of the shaft it is a lockup

Ok you've determined it's a non-lockup but is it an early style 18 spline or later style 27 spline input shaft? You need to count the number of splines on the input shaft to determine what it is.

I will answer all of your life's most deepest questions. Then you must hand over your truck.
